Hours Part-Time: All Weekdays when school is in session 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM
Role Description
As a Crossing Guard for the Shames JCC you will have opportunities for engagement with many diverse JCC members program participants and staff across all departments as you promote safety for all who are here.
The Crossing Guard will regularly monitor and direct the flow of traffic on the JCCs campus and manage the crosswalk. This includes ensuring that cars maintain a slow and appropriate speed in the JCCs parking lot and requiring cars to stop for pedestrians who are crossing the lot and entering the facility. The Crossing Guard will direct cars to available parking spaces manage the crosswalk and will ensure that cars are not parked or idling along the JCCs curb except when explicitly permitted.
The Crossing Guard plays a key role in keeping members at the JCCs facility. The Crossing Guards consistent presence and visibility into the flow of traffic through the JCC will support the onsite security team.
In addition to day-to-day responsibilities the Crossing Guard will collaborate with other JCC staff regarding plans to optimize safety and security when the JCC holds large scale events.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and direct traffic (both vehicles and pedestrians)
- Communicate with JCC members program participants and staff regarding movement in and around the parking lot
- Identify and assess any unusual and/or suspicious behavior; communicate with JCC security team as needed
- Collaborate with JCC Program Staff to optimize safety during special events
- Utilize tools such as radios signs etc. to communicate appropriately and effectively
- Additional duties as may be assigned
Desired Experience/Qualities
- Punctual; committed to 100% on-time attendance
- Personable and friendly; able to enforce policies while maintaining positive customer relations
- Strong situational awareness eyesight and listening skills
- Highly capable of communicating in English
- Ability to stand for up to 4 hours
- Ability to work outdoors rain-or-shine
- Familiarity with directing traffic
