The Research Nurse in the Clinical Research Center (CRC) at the Einstein-Montefiore ICTR plays a critical role in the implementation of early-phase and translational clinical research studies. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team the Research Nurse supports Principal Investigators in conducting high-quality compliant patient-centered research. Responsibilities span the full lifecycle of study visits including subject intake clinical assessments specimen collection protocol adherence documentation and patient safety monitoring.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct subject intake and screening in accordance with approved protocols and IRB requirements.
- Schedule and coordinate study-specific CRC visits (including fasting pharmacokinetic and infusion procedures).
- Provide direct clinical care to research participants including:
- Assess and monitor the subjects health condition including history-taking and physical assessments (Anthropometrics; Vital signs; ECG; ABI; etc.)
- Efficient and precise collection of blood urine and other body fluids according to research protocol requirements
- Medication administration (including investigational drugs) per protocol
- Ensure adherence to study-specific requirements including timed specimen collection and documentation of adverse events.
- Collaborate with study coordinators investigators pharmacists lab personnel and other clinical staff to ensure protocol fidelity and data integrity.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) and case report forms (CRFs).
- Support training and orientation of new clinical research staff as needed.
- Maintain exam room and research space readiness including inventory control and infection control practices.
- Participate in unit-based quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned to support clinical research operations
Scope of Responsibility
The Research Nurse will work under the direction of the CRC Director and in close coordination with the ICTRs Clinical Research Center staff investigators and coordinators. The role requires independence judgment and flexibility particularly in executing complex protocol procedures and responding to participant needs. The position does not have direct supervisory or budgetary responsibilities but may provide training support to junior staff and students.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Required:
- Current NYS license and registration as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN)
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience preferably in acute care or ambulatory settings
- Excellent phlebotomy skills and intravenous catheter placement
- BLS certification
- Preferred:
- Prior experience in clinical research or familiarity with Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
- ACLS preferred
- Bachelors degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred

- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy in documentation
- Familiarity with research protocols informed consent and regulatory documentation
- Comfortable working with electronic health records and data capture platforms (e.g. Epic REDCap)
- Ability to collaborate across disciplines with professionalism and diplomacy
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ensuring patient safety
