Job Description Summary
GENERAL OVERVIEW:
The Clinical Nurse Educator/Instructor reports to a designated Professional Development Manager and demonstrates clinical expertise by incorporating nursing theory and evidence-informed practice. The Clinical Nurse Educator participates in the execution of the staff development programs that contribute to the professional growth and development of nursing staff.

The Clinical Nurse Educator establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with all disciplines and departments necessary to promote optimal patient outcomes and create a professional practice environment. The Clinical Nurse Educator promotes a just culture and a culture of safety and is positioned to be accessible to the nurse in direct care. The role requires competency in adult learning principles and a sound clinical nursing knowledge base.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Orientation Training and Professional Development
with central classes and orientation activities as needed.
in educational needs assessments and identify learning needs of patients and staff.
opportunities and developmental experiences necessary for staff to successfully precept teach and mentor others.
educational offerings that incorporate new initiatives products equipment technology policies procedures or regulations in either a classroom a simulated laboratory settings or on assigned patient care area.
and monitor orientation progress for all department of nursing hires.
competency training and annual HealthStream completion by all staff.
an on-going evaluation of educational offerings by using the latest evidence scholarly information and cost-effectiveness strategies.
as a nursing practice leader coach and mentor to staff.
in self-performance appraisal process in an ongoing manner.
feedback regarding role performance from his/her respective nurse leaders peers and others.
formal and informal opportunities for staff to develop personal career goals and recognizes their achievement
ongoing formal and informal feedback regarding professional development to staff members.
and support peer to peer education.

Consultation/Collaboration
informal consultation on education and practice issues.
in committees and task forces as designated by Professional Development Manager.
and maintains effective collaborative relationships.
effectively to requests for education and training.
in developing nursing department policies and procedures with designated work teams.

Direct Patient Care
direct patient care in both collaboratively planned and emergent situations.
as a role model in providing expert care to patients.
in direct patient care experiences that promote facilitate and evaluate staffs critical thinking decision making and problem-solving abilities.
clinical decision-making skills and critical thinking behaviors in the clinical setting.
direct clinical support for orientation and training.
with nursing staff to manage emergency clinical situations
as a clinical expert in patient care areas mainlining and enhancing competency through a variety of methods including but not limited to direct patient care professional conferences and participation in divisional journal clubs.

Quality / Research
in quality and process improvement initiatives as designated by the Professional Development Manager.
in Collaborative Care Reviews and supports improvement efforts as designated by the Professional Development Manager.
education of new initiatives.
regulatory preparation and required learning.
audit plan as directed by the Professional Development Manager.
programs that are responsive to needs identified through divisional / unit quality data.
new information and/or research findings in developing and revising program content.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in a variety of patient care environments where there may be exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials such as chemotherapeutic agents radioisotopes and radiation. Work entails walking and lifting.
Lifting Pushing and Pulling Policy Statement (effective 3/7/20111): The Department of Nursing has adopted the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)recommended maximum weight limit of 35 lbs. for lifting and a reasonably comparable standard for pushing and pulling as part of the physical requirements for this position.


Qualifications

Job Description

Instructor / Clinical Nurse Educator Qualifications:

  • MSN (or) DNP (or) PhD required.

  • Current certification required or to be attained within two-year period from date of hire. Certification must be maintained while employed in this position.

  • Current nursing licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts

  • Minimum two years of clinical experience as a clinical nurse with demonstrated evidence of leadership progression.

  • Demonstrated evidence of competent nursing practice in clinical area or specialty.

  • Competency in adult learning principles and a sound clinical nursing knowledge base.

Additional Qualifications for Center for Nursing Excellence:

  • 1. Teaching experience and/or preceptor experience preferred.

  • 2. Current knowledge of clinical equipment (i.e. Baxter pump Zoll glucometer) preferred.

  • 3. BLS instructor preferred.

  • 4. EPIC training required.

Other:

Weekend and Holidays will be required per the Contract.

  • Proficient in EPIC and Microsoft Office.

  • Hours dependent on the program and needs of the units.
