This position is based in Los Angeles and is part of SPTs LA-based production business affairs team providing business affairs support for the global SPT International Production group including administration and tracking of business affairs matters and drafting of legal documents. This position will report to the Vice President of business affairs in Los Angeles.
Responsibilities:
Will handle manage & coordinate a wide variety of business affairs matters for both scripted and light entertainment formats and programming including:
Under limited or moderate supervision of business affairs staff: (a) drafting copies of license agreements consultancy agreements amendments and other business correspondence in English and Spanish; (b) summarizing the terms and conditions of current agreements including rights and obligations for both English and Spanish Language agreements; (c) maintaining and revising as needed department template forms; (d) tracking copyright trademark and other intellectual property issues including viewing materials and programming to determine any infringements in both English and Spanish Language; (e) approving credits for new productions for compliance of guild and contractual obligations in both English and Spanish Languages; (f) reviewing of participation abstracts and statements for compliance of contractual obligations including independently running sales history reports reviewing contract obligations and following up with participations prior to presenting to BA executive for sign-off/approval; (g) Manage due diligence/compliance reporting obligations including communicating with various groups to collect required information overseeing required internet research (including identifying and following up on potential red flags) and compiling and completing Appendix B and submitting to compliance group for approvals. Assist with outlining process/requirements for completing Due Diligence procedures for LA and UK teams; (h) Manage consultancy hiring including drafting of agreements and amendments supervising the collection of tax paperwork and setting up consultants in system for payments and tracking processing and sending or payments (i) Be the point person for reporting of residuals including submitting all Residual Notification letters to WGA answering one-off questions monthly meetings with residual department manage titles/series with residual obligations assure sales system accurately catch and report sales to residuals system; provide assistance to residual group with confirming obligations on historical titles including in-territory sales and obligations.
Independently or with little to no supervision (j) inputting and maintaining of rights into rights management system; (k) consistently following up on the execution of final documents and distributing intercompany upon receipt; (l) tracking and reporting all required guild obligations; (m) managing the requesting of and preparation of summaries of rights restrictions and obligations (including approvals fees participations and services); (n) providing assistance to other intercompany departments including distribution and finance with rights questions; (o) regularly preparing and maintaining reports (deal summaries ticklers status summaries for new acquisitions etc. including validating data creating presentable templates and finalizing report;(p) point person on complying with SPT Submission policy including responding to unsolicited material submissions in both English and Spanish; (q) coordinating with finance to confirm due diligence is performed on new third party licensees; and (r) working with asset management group to make sure deliverables comply with contractual obligations as well as reviewing/confirmation on available materials in both English and Spanish Language; (s) point person for distribution sales team in relation to rights clearances availability and approval requests for all International Television Production Titles both on individual title level research but also part of large-scale research projects; (t) main project manager for Deal Tracker/Rightsline system designed specifically for International Productions including creation of templates based on SPTIP standard agreements and identify issues to make templates efficient to capture wide range of data/ be point person between BA executives and IT to improve system and between satellite offices and IT and provide training as required; (u) BA point person for PSS/GPMS interface by working with IT & asset management to connect data in PSS and GPMS including validating PSS requests from productions/asset management to ensure series/season/episodes are correct and consistent between GPMS and PSS.
Knowledge: (a) knowledge of contract copyright and trademark law and familiarity with guild agreements and obligations; (b) working knowledge of production merchandising publishing music issues multiple forms of distribution (e.g. cable satellite VOD PPV Free TV DTV mobile etc.); (c) experience working in a multinational company and coordinating projects with multiple divisions is very helpful; and (d) demonstrated ability to compose basic agreements amendments letters and policy statements.

Qualifications:
Paralegal Certificate from an ABA Certified program required.
Ability to read write and speak Spanish fluently.
Min 7 years of related television and/or film production business affairs paralegal experience. Format licensing business affairs experience also considered very valuable.
Superior paralegal drafting skills are required.
Background in working in or with multimedia international corporations.
Proficiency with rights tracking software and databases preferable GPMS and Business Objects.
Proficiency in MS Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook and internal software.
Strong oral and written communication skills; professional business demeanor.
The anticipated base salary for this position is $80K to $100K. This role may also qualify for annual incentive and/or comprehensive benefits.
