Job Summary

Saint Josephs College of Maine is hiring for the position of Club Coach - Ice Hockey!

This position supports the Athletics Department by providing leadership and team management; managing sport program development and performance; ensuring athletic department collaboration and compliance; and fostering community engagement and promotion.

Provides Leadership and Team Management by:

  • Leading all aspects of the sport program including coaching training and game strategy ensuring alignment with college and NCAA (or equivalent) standards
  • Developing implementing and evaluating practice plans that foster the athletic development of each player while building team chemistry
  • Mentoring supporting and evaluating student-athletes in both their athletic and academic endeavors
  • Overseeing recruitment efforts for prospective players engaging with high schools community programs and recruiting events
  • Managing the scheduling of practices games and team events in coordination with Athletic Department personnel
  • Ensuring a positive team culture that values respect discipline and inclusivity
  • Regularly meeting with athletes to discuss progress performance and goals for development
  • Supervising assistant coaches providing guidance and constructive feedback to support their professional growth

Manages Sport Program Development and Performance by:

  • Developing and executing strategic plans for team performance including individual player development and team objectives
  • Analyzing performance data including player stats and game footage to assess team strengths and areas for improvement
  • Fostering an environment that supports student-athletes growth on and off the field helping them balance athletic commitments with academic responsibilities
  • Ensuring that players receive appropriate support for mental and physical well-being working with athletic trainers and sports psychologists as needed
  • Creating a structured feedback loop with athletes and assistant coaches to continually evaluate and enhance the program
  • Serving as a mentor ensuring student-athletes uphold the colleges values and academic standards while participating in the sport program

Ensures Athletic Department Collaboration and Compliance by:

  • Collaborating with the Athletic Director and other coaching staff to ensure alignment with broader departmental goals and priorities
  • Representing the college at relevant regional and national sport events tournaments and recruiting events
  • Participating in periodic team meetings with the Athletic Department to discuss performance recruitment and student-athlete development
  • Ensuring compliance with all NCAA regulations (or equivalent) and institutional policies regarding eligibility recruitment and student athlete conduct

Fosters Community Engagement and Promotion by:

  • Promoting the sport program within the Saint Josephs College community including through social media campus events and alumni outreach
  • Engaging with prospective students and parents representing the sport program during campus visits orientation events and admissions functions
  • Coordinating with other campus organizations to support student athlete integration into campus life and community activities

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree is required or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level or a comparable competitive environment
  • National coaching certification (sport specific or equivalent) preferred
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certification required and must maintain certification

Supervision and Scheduling Demands:

  • Receives minimal supervision will meet on a regular basis with the Head Coach
  • Ability to work evenings weekends and some holidays for practice games and team-related events
  • Occasional travel is required for games and tournaments

Equipment & Technology Usage:

  • Basic familiarity with a computer smartphone and other technology for communication and game analysis (video software spreadsheets etc.)
  • Familiarity with sports performance tracking systems and coaching tools
  • Personal protective equipment required to ensure safety

Knowledge Skills Abilities:

  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting student-athletes academic athletic and personal success
  • In-depth knowledge of the sport techniques strategies and rules at the collegiate level
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop student-athletes
  • Ability to support and strengthen the mission of Saint Josephs College
  • Consistent attendance at team-related events and activities
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written with the ability to engage diverse audiences
  • Ability to manage and organize multiple tasks and priorities effectively
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a commitment to fostering a positive inclusive and supportive team environment
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying current on best practices in coaching student-athlete development and wellness
  • Knowledge of safety protocols related to physical conditioning and sport injuries
  • Computer competence in word processing database management and electronic mail
  • Must demonstrate teamwork skills and a willingness to help others
  • Posses a positive attitude to foster a cohesive working environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion in handling sensitive situations
  • Tolerates work related stress effectively and maintains self-control/professionalism
  • Must have a valid drivers license complete a driver training program and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record Required
