TITLE: Teacher Mentor SUMMARY: Reporting to the Mentor Program Coordinator Mentors are responsible for serving as an advisor and supporter of one or more new district professional staff members. Mentors promote the growth and development of beginning teachers to improve student learning. Mentors are critical supports in guiding new professional staff and orienting new teachers to the school community. Mentors will contact observe coach and guide assigned staff members on a regular basis. Mentors may provide information facilitate discussion on problems and seek advice and assistance to design appropriate instructional or intervention strategies. Mentors attend the annual New Professional Staff Orientation. REQUIREMENTS: Mentors who will be considered for the Mentoring and Induction program must have successfully completed the district-approved training within the last five years. The mentor teacher must be committed to the vision and goals of the Mentoring and Induction qualifications:Trained as mentors within the last five years or plan to complete the district training (603 CMR 7.02).Certified with at least three years of experience (603 CMR 7.02).Effective in their role as shown by receiving a rating of at least proficient in recent proven teachers practice reflects excellent content knowledge of the MA Curriculum about the Standards of Effective Teaching Practice and the Educator Evaluation communicators and problem solvers especially when working with of the merits of different teaching styles and can demonstrate a variety of pedagogical strategies/ positive beliefs toward the potential of improving academic achievement for all studentsAble to teach to the diverse learning styles of about the professional and community resources in the school and districtAble to maintain a confidential and able to invest time with support and scheduling adjustments by the school and district to develop mentoring skills and participate in the program for the duration of the DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Meet with mentee at least two times a month and attend monthly group meetings Attend mentor meetings 2-3 times throughout the participate in the induction and mentoring program including readings journaling mentor logs to be submitted to the Mentor Coordinator at least one observation of the mentee as well as a co-observation of another effective educator with your mentee. Introduce and orient new professional staff to the school community; build relationships with new professional staff for the purpose of establishing an environment of trust collaboration and providing emotional new professional staff to district-wide responsibilities schedules and policies with regard to involvement with students and the Mentor Program and assist beginning teachers with curriculum development classroom management instructional strategies assessment of student performance and all aspects of their professional confidentiality in the professional QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience At least three years of teaching experience in the Oxford Public Schools with increasing levels of responsibility and demonstrated leadership traits. Must have attained three consecutive years of overall proficiency on his/her performance evaluations. Knowledge Skills and Abilities Knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: codes/laws/rules/regulations/policies curriculum and instructional methods instructional media/equipment and office equipment/software. Skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: analyzing effective listening facilitating meetings guiding others leadership monitoring activities planning training adult learners instructional techniques and best practices. Ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adaptability/flexibility communication with persons of diverse backgrounds/knowledge/skills confidentiality innovation leadership and direction motivating others taking initiative and teamwork working collaboratively with colleagues; multi-tasking; working with diverse groups; and excellent interpersonal skills.
