Job Summary

The University of Iowa Health Care department of Safety and Securityis seeking aHospital Security Officer to perform duties needed to maintain a safe and secure environment for patients visitors and staff in the buildings and grounds of the University of Iowa Health Care Campuses.

The new University of Iowa Health Care North Liberty Campus opened in the Spring of 2025.This 469000 square foot facility is home to UI Health Cares nationally recognized Orthopedics service line offering comprehensive coordinated and accessible care across the outpatient inpatient and surgical venues. These state-of-the-art clinical facilities includes a full-service community imaging center laboratory services physical therapy retail pharmacy and emergency department as well as an array of support services.The facility has been designed to support a superior patient and staff experience; excellence across our patient care teaching and research missions; convenient access to services; and engaging community partnerships.UI Health Care is seeking a welcoming highly skilled and collaborative workforce to be a part of the opening team for this superb new campus and to help further our mission of:Changing Medicine.   • Provide exceptional customer service to patients visitors and staff entering the hospital
  • Assist with wayfinding and information to patients visitors and staff
  • Perform security checks patrol facility and monitor special assignments
  • Conduct incident investigations and provide documentation for follow-up
  • Respond to and assist in all incidents regarding safety and security
  • Respond to lock/unlock doors troubleshoot elevator problems and extricate as needed and assist in traffic/parking enforcement
  • Respond to and resolve emergencies such as fire HazMat and security alarms
  • Provide security surveillance of institution including physiatric units
  • Maintain a working knowledge of computers to process data operate fire alarm systems and security systems
  • Escort to parking ramps and outlying areas
  • Perform safekeeping procedures
  • Provide effective oral and written communication
  • Enforce all institution policies and procedures
  • Ability to walk and climb stairs.
  • Ability to lift and carry fifty pounds.
  • Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to see and hear accurately in both day and nighttime conditions.

Key Training/Compliances:

  • IAHSS Basic Online Course to be completed within 6 months of start date
  • Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) 8 hour - to be completed in first 90 days
  • Health Safety Professional (HSP) - to be completed in first 90 days

Percent of Time:100%

Schedule: 3rd Shift (11PM to 7AM)

Location:University Campus and North Liberty Campus (training will be completed at University Campus)

Pay Grade: 08 Salary: $18.72/ hour plus shift differential and potential over time

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

  • Two years experience in security and safety or fire safety or law enforcement; or
    • One year of post-high school education related to security and safety and on year of experience in security and safety; or
    • Two years of post-high school education related to security and safety
  • Possession of appropriate drivers license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.
  • Ability to obtain basic certification from International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within 6 months of hire and maintain certification for duration of employment.

Desirable Requirements

  • Two years of customer service experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office computer software applications (i.e. Word PowerPoint Excel etc)
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
