About the Role

The Finance Business Partner will act as the key financial liaison between the Finance team teams implementing programs and the Development team. The role ensures impactful financial management by developing effective budgets actively monitoring financial performance and compliance with internal policies and donor requirements.

This role provides financial insight guidance and support to enable effective decision-making and optimize the use of resources.

Responsibilities

Delivery

Financial Partnership & Support

  • Lead the development of annual budgets forecasts and financial plans for projects and grants.

  • Provide accurate variance analyses to monitor performance against budgets.

  • Support resource allocation by identifying funding gaps and financial risks.

Grant Management & Donor Compliance

  • Work closely with Development and implementing teams to review donor agreements ensuring financial terms are fully understood and achievable.

  • Develop donor budgets and cost proposals that are realistic competitive and compliant with both donor rules and internal policies.

  • Monitor grant expenditure ensuring costs are allowable allocable and within approved budgets.

  • Lead donor financial reporting ensuring accuracy timeliness and compliance with all contractual requirements.

  • Identify and mitigate financial risks associated with grants flagging potential compliance issues early.

Financial Planning Reporting & Analysis

  • Provide clear and timely financial reports dashboards and key performance indicators (OKRs) to management and project teams.

  • Support annual planning multi-year forecasting and mid-term reviews of projects and programs.

  • Analyze funding pipelines to ensure the sustainability of operations and support decision-making on new proposals.

Process Improvement & Risk Management

  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls over grant accounting and reporting.

  • Identify and mitigate financial risks associated with donor funding and program delivery.

  • Contribute to improving systems and tools for more efficient grant monitoring and reporting.

Engagement

  • Act as a trusted advisor to implementing teams Development teams and senior leadership translating financial information into actionable insight.

  • Collaborate with non-financial colleagues to develop donor budgets and cost proposals that are competitive and realistic.

  • Influence decision-making by presenting clear financial insight in non-technical language.

  • Build strong working relationships across departments to support grant delivery and compliance.

  • Deliver training and capacity-building sessions to improve financial understanding in programs and funding teams.

  • Facilitate open communication on budget performance risk management and resource allocation.

Job requirements

Work Experience

  • Professional accounting qualification (e.g. ACCA CIMA CPA) and/or 5 years of equivalent experience.

  • Proven experience in financial management; experience within an NGO or other context involving grant management would be an advantage.

Knowledge and abilities

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to deliver accurate and timely reporting.

  • Strong understanding of financial compliance requirements.

  • Knowledge of financial analysis tools to support decision-making.

  • Familiarity with process improvement or system implementation initiatives.

  • Knowledge of restricted/unrestricted funding models and cost recovery methodologies would be an advantage.

  • Ability to guide the stakeholders through strategic decision-making to navigate its complexities.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.

  • Has strong communication and good collaboration skills.

  • Has excellent written and oral skills in English; additional language is a plus.

  • Comfortable working remotely and in a dynamic and fast-changing environment.

  • Able to work in an international and multi-cultural setting.

  • Affinity with the mission GRI.

What we offer

  • Work hours: 40 hrs p/w (full-time flexible)

  • Contract type: Permanent

  • Salary: EUR gross per annum on a full-time basis (based on experience and location)
