JOB SUMMARY

The University of Connecticut School of Nursing (SON) is seeking applications to fill a full-time 10-month non-tenure track Clinical Instructor -Coordinator of Clinical Placements the direction of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs the faculty member will serve as coordinator of clinical placement sites for pre-licensure and graduate nursing students will supervise students in clinical work and will engage in scholarly and professional service activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists in the coordination of clinical placements of pre-licensure students in clinical rotations throughout the year in collaboration with the Director and Assistant Director of Prelicensure Programs and course coordinators specifically managing student and faculty onboarding with clinical agencies communication between students and sites and clinical data management processes. The candidate will also conduct evaluation of individual students clinical performance via impromptu meetings and planned evaluation conferences; evaluate students written work; apprise students of their clinical performance on a regular basis; act as a liaison to clinical agencies; share clinical expectations and course objectives with relevant agency staff; initiate action when required to address student or agency issues that may arise; and participate in campus simulation laboratory teaching experiences. The individual who assumes this position will also: recruit qualified people to join UConn SON faculty to serve as clinical preceptors; expand clinical placement sites in Connecticut; match available faculty to clinical sites; provide support to clinical preceptors; and participate in orientation for new faculty/preceptors. Candidate also processes paperwork and/or records; reviews for accuracy completeness and compliance with regulations policies and procedures; identifies and follows up to resolve problems. Prepares narrative and informational reports; compiles and organizes information requiring the understanding and evaluation of data sources.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Masters degree in Nursing;
  2. Current Connecticut RN license (valid as of date of hire which must bemaintained and once available the multistate compact RN license);
  3. Three or more years of experience teaching undergraduate students in clinical settings;
  4. Experience evaluating student performance in clinical training settings;
  5. Experience developing effective working relationships with hospitals clinics and other community partners;
  6. Experience evaluating preceptor performance including in settings outside ones own area of clinical expertise;
  7. Completion of required health indicators (MMR titers TB status Hepatitis B and others as required by clinical agencies) and CPR certification at the time of employment;
  8. Demonstrated communication skills and interpersonal relationship strategies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) credentials;
  2. Three or more years of experience working as a medical/surgical RN;
  3. Experience managing and directing group clinical training for students in baccalaureate nursing programs;
  4. Experience working with students in an accelerated nursing entry program;
  5. Previous classroom teaching experience in an institution of higher education;
  6. Evidence of scholarship/research accomplishments in nursing;

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a 10-month non-tenure-track position subject to annual review. Individuals may attain eligibility for multi-year contracts after successful completion of five (5) one-year appointments. Salary and position level will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidates primary appointment will be at the Storrs campus with the expectation that they will routinely travel to clinical placement sites and occasionally travel to UConns other regional campuses.
