IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Program Director
PAY GRADE: $21.00 per hour
HOURS: 3:00pm 5:30pm
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
Responsible for providing instruction in dance arts the Dance Arts Instructor will lead students in expressive movement technique and choreography. This role emphasizes fostering creativity discipline and appreciation for diverse dance styles. The instructor will guide students through the rehearsal process ensuring growth in both technical skill and artistic expression culminating in polished performances that showcase student talent and creativity.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Plan prepare and deliver engaging dance lessons that incorporate a variety of styles (e.g. ballet jazz modern hip-hop cultural/world dance).
Teach proper dance technique body alignment rhythm and expressive movement appropriate for the age and developmental level of students.
Design and implement choreography for classroom instruction showcases and school-wide performances.
Foster a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages self-expression collaboration and respect for diverse cultures and artistic traditions.
Assess student progress through observation practice and performance providing constructive feedback.
Collaborate with administrators teachers and arts staff to integrate dance into interdisciplinary projects.
Organize and direct rehearsals ensuring students are performance-ready and confident on stage.
Maintain a safe organized and positive classroom and rehearsal environment.
Support school and community arts initiatives by participating in events performances and outreach as needed.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Strong foundation in dance technique pedagogy and choreography across multiple styles.
Ability to inspire motivate and engage students of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
Knowledge of stage production elements (costuming lighting stage direction) preferred.
Excellent classroom management organizational and communication skills.
Commitment to fostering creativity self-confidence and cultural appreciation through dance.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues parents and the community.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Experience in dance education performing arts or related field required.
Previous experience teaching dance in a school studio or community arts program strongly preferred.
Performance and choreography experience required.
CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to demonstrate dance movements and choreography.
Frequent standing bending stretching and physical activity required.
Ability to lift and move materials related to performances (costumes props equipment).
