With over 36 million visits annually to the National Mall combined with aging infrastructure and the need for better visitor amenities throughout the park the Trust is helping the National Park Service tackle the more than $800 million needed for critical repairs and improvements.

Brief Position Summary

The Director of Individual Philanthropy serves as a key member of the Philanthropy Team by managing and growing a portfolio of individual donors to contribute to the Trusts Our Monumental Moment (OMM): Campaign for the National Mall inspired by Americas 250th anniversary in 2026 and addition to cultivating and soliciting individual donors with the capacity to make four five and six-figure gifts the Director of Individual Philanthropy manages three donor recognition societies including the Monumental Circle (planned giving) Trust Leadership Council (TLC) and Trust Cornerstone Circle (TCC). The Director of Individual Philanthropy also contributes to AMERICAS BALL for THE MALL sponsorship acquisition membership strategy donor stewardship and Philanthropy Department event planning. The Director of Individual Philanthropy reports to the Vice President of Philanthropy.

Salary Range: $125000 to $135000

Responsibilities

Frontline Fundraising (70%)

  • Identify qualify cultivate solicit and steward individual donors both locally and across the country who can make four five- six- and seven-figure gifts.
  • Dedicated focus on long-term strategic stewardship to grow relationships and ultimately gifts.
  • Identify qualify cultivate solicit and steward 250K Club donors for the OMM Campaign.
  • Expand Trust Leadership Council and Trust Cornerstone Council recognition societies through recruitment of new members ($1K - $25K) and steward existing TLC and TCC members with the goal of securing campaign commitments where applicable.
  • Strategically and creatively work with the Sr. Director of Philanthropy and VP of Philanthropy to expand the current volume of donors in the entry and mid-level giving streams.
  • Evaluate TLC and TCC stewardship needs to identify opportunities for enhanced engagement.
  • Collaborate on OMM Campaign planning and stewardship of major campaign donors.
  • Manage portfolio of 75-100 major gift prospects/donors.
  • Work with the VP of Philanthropy to develop and implement an individual fundraising strategy.
  • Participate in Moves Management strategy sessions MGO Pipeline meetings and work in collaboration with the Prospect Development Manager.
  • Maintain accurate up-to-date records in the Salesforce CRM.

Trust and Philanthropy Team Event Planning and Implementation (20%)

  • Promote AMERICAS BALL for THE MALL individual sponsorship and individual ticket purchases to drive attendance.
  • Promote and drive attendance for other TNM Philanthropy and Programs team events.
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of Philanthropy and Programs team events.

Team and Relationship Building (10%):

  • Develop a deep understanding of the Trusts mission and impact to serve as a key ambassador expert communicator and relationship builder both internally and externally.
  • Serve as a strong external representative for the Trust for the National Mall developing and maintaining positive relationships with donors.
  • Actively participate in building organizational and team culture aligned with the Trusts values.
  • Review and edit Communication Team documents Avalon email for donor acquisition and donor recognition across all channels.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Key Skills

  • Experience securing four five- six- and seven-figure gifts.
  • Pipeline and donor management expertise.
  • Comfortable around high-net-worth individuals.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to speak articulately both in one-on-one settings and to large groups.

Education

  • Bachelors degree or commensurate experience.
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 7 years experience in non-profit fundraising.
  • Proven experience in major gifts planned giving direct mail and donor stewardship is preferred.
  • Experience using Salesforce or other CRM is preferred.
