Job Summary

The Peel Compton Foundation is a premiere and growing nonprofit organization located in Bentonville AR. The foundation owns and operates the Peel Museum & Botanical Garden Compton Gardens & Arboretum Coler Mountain Bike Preserve and Osage Park. The uniting mission for these diverse properties is to connect the community through nature education recreation and preservation. Peel Compton Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

About the Position
Youll join a top-notch team and work in collaboration with the Museum Manager to oversee daily operations for the museum and museum store and assist with maintaining and researching the collection and docent/volunteer recruitment and training. This role is critical to the Peel Compton Foundation organization to support our growth and expand our impact.
General Responsibilities:
  • Assist with daily operations tour coordination and museum store operations.
  • Engage with visitors and lead tours as needed.
  • Manage the museum docent scheduling and support volunteer training opportunities.
  • Perform routine housekeeping IPM and climate monitoring.
  • Assist with exhibition installations and removal.
  • Conduct research about the museum collection Peel family and agricultural workforce and early Bentonville history.

Operations:
  • Support the museum cabin store and exhibit rooms to ensure they are well organized and cleaned.
  • Contribute to the collections database and maintain accurate and useful accounting of all displayed and archived objects and materials.
  • Nurture the volunteer and docent programs implement quality controls for training and ongoing evaluation of visitor experience.
  • Passionately communicate about the museum and exhibit rooms collections and history and the importance they play in the community and nation.
  • Support the Director of Programming with educational programming content instruction and coordination as needed. This includes supporting the Foundations annual programs like School Days to programs for smaller audiences.
  • Must possess excellent research and writing skills.

Who we are looking for:
Qualifications required for your success
  • Bachelors degree in museum studies history or related content area and 2 years of volunteer and tour management.
  • The ideal candidate has experience communicating with the public in a museum and/or historic house setting.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize negotiate and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • 1 years experience with collections management and object handling and rehousing.
  • Key Skills: Detail Oriented Communication Decision Making Problem Solving Public Speaking and Presenting
Additional Helpful Experience Includes
  • Spanish ASL or other language skills.
  • Volunteer management particularly in a museum setting.
  • Familiarity with photographing archival and museum objects.
