Position is funded in part through federal funds.
Position will be housed at the Wilson EIPD Unit office in Wilson NC. This position supports training job exploration and job development of clients for six (6) counselors. The position reports directly to the Unit Manager.
Position also serves as a liaison with local employers community resources other agencies schools clients and EIPD staff to ensure successful employment opportunities for doing so it provides direct job placement services vocational counseling and skills training to qualified school settings this position will assist students transitioning from school to work and may provide direct job placement and coaching assistance with transportation needs and other related functions.
The candidate will establish ongoing and new relationships with local employers for the purpose of identifying opportunities for placements by marketing EIPD services and consumers educating employers about disability types limitations successful accommodations ADA requirements and sensitivity issues related to employees with disabilities. They may also assist employers in developing/modifying jobs for persons with disabilities screen consumers to meet the needs of the employer and may provide services to assist with on-site training.
The placement specialist may conduct or coordinate business/facility tours for Rehabilitation Counselors and others. The position also maintains ongoing relationships with NC Works and other community agencies to develop job placement and business partnership opportunities.
Position will collaborate with consumers to review and identify employment goals and their skills. Candidate will research consumers past work history identify references for potential employers and work closely with the consumer counselor and / or vocational evaluator in establishing job goals. They will also assess consumers job readiness and provide training in deficit areas. This would include but not limited to assisting with completing applications (hard copy and online) preparing resumes cover letters follow-up letter; locating outside resources for skill development registering at NC works coaching consumers on when/how to discuss their disability and needed accommodations and conducting mock interviews.
Candidate will be responsible for direct and indirect placement of consumers in employment situations. Candidate will also provide job retention services.
