DescriptionThe research laboratory of Dr. Knauf focuses on metabolite homeostasis and its significance in both health and disease. This work is highly interdisciplinary ranging from organoid studies to research involving animal models. Dr. Knaufs team plays a pivotal role in bridging experimental and clinical research by testing new hypotheses in patient cohorts and investigator-initiated trialshypotheses that are often developed through experimental studies.
Dr. Knauf previously held faculty positions at Yale University and Charit Universittsmedizin Berlin. He recently joined the Mayo Clinic where his research continues in close collaboration with teams at these esteemed institutions.
A Research Associate position in Life Sciences (LS) will require an advanced knowledge of either clinical-based research or laboratory-based research. Requires at least three years of postdoctoral research experience at Mayo Clinic or elsewhere.
A Research Associate at Mayo Clinic is a temporary transitional role with the primary purpose to allow qualified individuals to work within an established investigators program in preparation for an academic and/or independent research career. The ability to perform specialized or complex functions would typically be demonstrated through review of scientific accomplishments contributions and peer-reviewed publications averaging at least one per year post doctoral degree. The Research Associate is expected to provide leadership support and training within an established research program. Upon background check and CCATS Executive Committee approval Research Associate may have patient/research subject contact directly relating to and incidental to the original research program.
QualificationsRequired Skills and Qualifications

- A completed degree in the natural sciences
- A strong track record of research demonstrated through publications in internationally recognized journals (preferably as first author)
- Extensive experience with experimental techniques especially in mouse models
- High proficiency in cell culture experiments
- Strong motivation the ability to take initiative and a team-oriented mindset
- Analytical thinking excellent organizational and communication skills and a responsible work ethic
- Enthusiasm for co-supervising doctoral candidates and students
Must have a Ph.D. M.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a field deemed relevant by the program. Requires at least three years of postdoctoral research experience at Mayo Clinic or elsewhere with evidence of publications and other scientific accomplishments.
