JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Department
The Department of Communication Sciences and Oral Health offers undergraduate degrees in Communication Sciences and Dental Hygiene an online masters degree in Education of the Deaf and a masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology. We also offer post-baccalaureate certificates in Bilingual Speech-Language Pathology Deaf and Hard of Hearing and Multicultural and Diversity Studies as well as emphasis areas for the MS and PhD in Health Studies and the PhD in Special Education. Housed in the College of Health Sciences the department has 26 full-time tenured tenure-track and clinical faculty members who work together to support the missions of the programs department and university. Our faculty members are engaged in a variety of research and teaching efforts and they provide clinical supervision in our three clinics (the Dental Hygiene Clinic and Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic on the Denton campus and the Mike A Myers Stroke Center on the Dallas campus).
The Position
The primary responsibilities of the Assistant Professor include teaching graduate SLP and undergraduate Communication Sciences academic courses preferably in the areas of voice and/or dysphagia although other areas of specialty will be considered; supervising clinical students; conducting research for scholarly publications; and providing professional service. Our CAA-accredited SLP masters program has both a traditional venue and a well-established distance education venue with close to 200 students. Faculty teach undergraduate courses on the Denton campus and evening graduate courses either in Denton or Dallas. Distance SLP courses are transmitted via live videoconferencing technology to students across the state and can be taught from either campus or from the receiving locations. Start date for the position is Spring 2026.
Qualified applicants will hold an earned research doctorate in Communication Sciences and Disorders Speech-Language Pathology or a related area; be ASHA-certified; and be licensed (or eligible to become licensed) as a speech-language pathologist in Texas. Preferences include clinical supervisory experience and bilingual Spanish-speaking.
