Drill Press Setup Technician
Shift: 1st
Pay: $25-$35/hr (DOE)
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Sets up and operates up to six drill press machines to produce machined parts according to blueprints specifications and/or special instructions.
- Operates previously setup drilling machines such as single or multiple spindle drill presses to drill ream countersink spot face or tap holes in work pieces according to specifications.
- Starts and operates machine operation to detect out-of-tolerance machining and adjust controls and machine as required.
- Sets up and operates machine on trial run to check accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
- Checks parts for conformance to specifications using micrometers calipers and gauges and perform SPC.
- Recognizes and remedies minor machine malfunctioning or cutting action of tools. Major discrepancies are reported to supervisor.
- Identifies disassembles and determines corrective action required to repair work or broken parts.
- Checks tooling and reworks as needed to keep machine running.
- Lays out parts for successive and continuous machining operations.
- May be tasked to re-sharpen dull drill bits and reamers.
- Examine products to verify conformance to quality standards by following blueprints or work blueprint or job order for product specification such as dimensions tolerance number or parts to be checked.
- Performs record keeping data entry housekeeping and follows safety regulations.
- Assists drill machine operators with drill machines being operated for conformance recognizes and remedies minor machine malfunctioning and/or cutting and checks accuracy of machine specific to blueprint settings.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Skills and Formal Training Requirements/Experience
- Able to read comprehend and execute directions from mechanical drawings.
- Able to measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications using measuring instruments such as rulers calipers gauges or micrometers.
