DESCRIPTION:
The Assessment Analyst plays a key role in supporting the successful administration of the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) and other district assessments. This position ensures data accuracy compliance with state and federal requirements and provides meaningful reporting to support school and district decision-making. Key responsibilities include analyzing and reporting assessment data assisting with progress monitoring and supporting research requests and survey administration (PNAS YRBS/YHS). The role also includes maintaining the Adult Education Centers Student Information System (Focus SIS). Reporting to the Manager for Assessment and Research the Assessment Analyst collaborates with schools district staff and state partners to ensure efficient and accurate assessment administrations.
DUTIES:
MCAS & Assessment Operations
- Serve as a district point of contact to schools for testing including troubleshooting logistical and technical questions concerns and irregularities before during and after state testing.
- Plan and coordinate training opportunities related to MCAS including collaborating with trainers developing communication and training materials and managing planning activities necessary for successful test administration.
- Assist with preparing cleaning and validating assessment data files.
- Support MCAS assessment cycles (NovJune) by monitoring test administration and ensuring compliance with DESE requirements.
- Provide support to schools during MCAS administration and coordinate with OITA colleagues to resolve technical or logistical challenges.
- Set up maintain and troubleshoot staff accounts for state databases and testing platforms.
- Provide support to schools for other district-based assessments ensuring tasks and documentation are completed in alignment with district timelines.
- Develop implement and maintain a district-wide assessment calendar.
- Collaborate with other district departments on cross-functional projects related to assessments.
Data and Reporting
- Assist with the compilation and auditing of the districts state reporting data (EPIMS SIMS SCS and SSDR).
- Perform quality checks to ensure accuracy of data used in accountability and reporting.
- Validate reports prior to publication and support the preparation of district/state submissions.
- Provide data analysis and support to school and district leaders in monitoring key performance indicators.
Research & Compliance Support
- Support the districts research request process in alignment with OITA protocols and FERPA requirements.
- Provide technical and data support for the PNAS and YRBS/YHS surveys ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
Student Information System (Focus SIS) Support
- Provide operational support for the Adult Education Centers Focus SIS including validation troubleshooting and reporting.
Collaboration & Additional Duties
- Collaborate with other OITA staff to ensure cross-department projects are completed on schedule and accurately.
- Document assessment and data procedures to support knowledge transfer and sustainability.
- Perform related duties as assigned by the Manager for Assessment and Research Administrator of Strategic Data and Accountability CIO or Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree required with preference given to candidates holding degrees in Education Data Science Business Administration Public Administration or related field (Masters preferred).
- Knowledge of K-12 school organization with prior assessment data analysis and educational and assistive technology experience preferred.
- Experience working with teachers and principals in analyzing assessment data to support instructional change preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks independently.
- Ability to be a self-starter capable of independently troubleshooting problems and resolving issues.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and relate effectively to internal and external customers at all levels of the organization.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; experience with public speaking developing and delivering presentations.
- Experience working with a variety of information systems and data files including large complex files and transforming raw data into finished products.
- Ability to provide advice and guidance to school staff in resolving problems of strategy policy and operations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school and district staff at all levels.
