Job Summary

The internship project:
At The Kingfish Company we produce healthy sustainable yellowtail kingfish of the highest quality. Our fish is very versatile and can be prepared in many ways e.g.: pan-fried oven-baked smoked or sashimi-style. Our product can be found in both retail and wholesale markets across the EU and US.

To serve these markets our product should comply with various food safety regulations. These regulations are continent country and sometimes region/state specific. During your internship you will be investigating all relevant regulations in the seafood arena to serve our main markets in both the EU and US.

What you will do
As an intern you will support our Quality Control (QC) and Processing team with various activities including:
Supporting and performing diverse checks within QC including helping to design and implement new methodologies.
Setting up structured data collection processes for different tests.
Developing data processes and protocols to ensure consistent and reliable results.

Besides your internship project we will show you the QC and QA life and you will be able to work within our Q department. And of course you will also have the opportunity to explore different departments of the company.
As our new Food Safety intern youll be part of the Quality Team consisting of our Quality Manager our Quality Supervisor. A small but ambitious team!

Requirements

    • You are an MBO or HBO student majoring in a field of Microbiology or Laboratory
    • You have strong analytical skills enabling you to go through and summarize large amounts of information in an efficient manner
    • You are data driven and have feel good with numbers
    • You are enthusiastic collaborative and can work independently
    • You thrive in a dynamic work environment
    • You are proficient in English writing and verbal communication
    • You are looking for an internship for 2 - 4 months

The Kingfish Company
The Kingfish Company is a pioneer and leader in sustainable land-based aquaculture. We produce the yellowtail kingfish (also known as Ricciola/Hiramasa/Greater Amberjack) which is a highly versatile premium fish species well known in the Italian and Asian fusion cuisines.
Our operation is based on three core principles: sustainability respect for our fish and the environment. These key principles are at the heart of our design activity and technology decisions. Production of our fish is based on advanced recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) which create the ideal growth environment for kingfish offer optimal biosecurity and limit the environmental impact. Animal welfare is paramount and our fish are grown without the use of antibiotics and vaccines. Operations run on 100% renewable energy sourced from wind solar and biogas and the companys facilities operate on seawater to avoid wasting precious fresh water.
Current annual production capacity at its Kingfish Zeeland facility in the Netherlands is 1500 tons of high-quality and high-value Yellowtail Kingfish. Expansion is underway and capacity in the Netherlands will reach 3500 tons in the second half of 2022. In the US permitting for the companys approximate 8500 tons capacity facility is progressing as planned with production start scheduled for the second half of 2023.
