The Department of Natural Resources Division of Mining Land & Wateris recruiting for two Natural Resource Specialist 1/2s in Anchorage.

What You Will Be Doing:

Are you interested in adjudicating and managing easements on and across public lands including public access and R.S. 2477 historic trails Do you want to be part of a dynamic team of dedicated professional land managers responsible for making decisions that facilitate access to and use of state land If so please apply for this career opportunity as a Natural Resource Specialist in the Easement Unit for the Southcentral Regional Land Office (SCRO). We are looking for a collaborative and positive team member with an interest in public land management. The Natural Resource Specialist 1/2 Flex oversees land use authorizations and management of state lands in alignment with public interests.

Mission and Values/Culture:

This position is housed in the Division of Mining Land and Water (DMLW) within the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The DNR mission is to develop conserve and maximize the use of Alaskas natural resources consistent with the public interest. The DMLW mission is to provide for the appropriate use and management of Alaskas state-owned land and water aiming toward maximum use consistent with the public interest. The Easement Unit contributes to the DNR and DMLW missions by facilitating economic growth that is consistent with the public interest working frequently with local utilities the Department of Transportation trail user groups and private individuals.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

Located on the ninth floor of the Robert B. Atwood Building in downtown Anchorage our office has a positive atmosphere that fosters collaboration and teamwork. The office boasts a stunning view of the Chugach Mountain Range and provides complimentary parking. The Atwood building is near coffee shops restaurants shopping the park strip and the Coastal Trail system.

Standard business hours are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. The current work schedule requires a 7.5-hour daily schedule with options for an alternate workweek schedule and part-time remote work.

Natural Resource Specialist 1 Starting Salary $26.66 an hour

• Writing: Recognizes or uses correct English grammar punctuation and spelling; communicates information (for example facts ideas or messages) in a succinct and organized manner; produces written information which may include technical material that is appropriate for the intended audience.

Education from an accredited college and/or experience in natural resource management.

Natural Resource Specialist 2 Starting Salary $30.62 an hour

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in:

• Analytical Thinking/Problem-Solving: uses a logical systematic sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on ones knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
• Decision-Making:Makes sound well-informed and objective decisions; perceives the impact and implications of decisions; commits to action even in uncertain situations to accomplish organizational goals; causes change.
• Legal Government and Jurisprudence: Knowledge of laws legal codes court procedures precedents legal practices and documents Government regulations Executive orders agency rules Government organization and functions and the democratic political process.
• Oral Communication: Expresses information (for example ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example technical sensitive controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others attends to nonverbal cues and responds appropriately.

Education in a natural resource field (such as forestry geology agronomy and hydrology) public administration planning economics cartography or a closely related field and/or professional-level experience in natural resource management.

Special Note:

For the purposes of minimum qualifications natural resource management is defined as the management of land water minerals forests oil gas agricultural resources archaeological sites natural and cultural history parks and related surface and subsurface resources. Experience or education in natural resource management means involvement in the above resources exclusively. Those with experience or education in managing these resources may specialize in different management functions (for example planning regulation research or title). All of this experience applies to the definition of natural resource management. Some positions may require education in a specific area of natural resource management or specialized technical knowledge and training gained through specialized education or progressively greater responsibilities at lower levels of the series.
