Job Summary

Primary Responsibilities
EssentialResponsibilities: 1. Provide adequate communication and client services to a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community. 2. Assist special events (Sully Showcase Sully Start-Up etc) as needed in order to communicate benefits eligibility and other Veteran information to prospective/current students. 3. Maintain knowledge of all Veteran Administrations educational benefits to provide guidance and education to students and other stakeholders. 4. Maintain knowledge of trends issues and accepted practices related to the position. 5. Display a clear understanding of the requirements of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act ( FERPA ) of 1974 as amended regarding the privacy of student records and general information. Maintain the confidentiality of all conversations incidents and information processed and maintained by the University. Be capable of explaining the basic elements of FERPA to the public students faculty and staff. 6. Ensure the security of student records by safeguarding access to the student information system and all student files both electronic and hard copy. 7. Prepare and maintain student educational records as required by the records retention schedule. 8. Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times. SpecificResponsibilities: 1. Reviews current federal and state legislation as related to veterans benefits; and advises veterans and dependents of veterans about their rights under applicable benefits acts. 2. Assists veterans and dependents of veterans in preparing applications for state and federal benefits; reviews and files claims for veterans benefits on behalf of eligible aJ)applicants; and researches and analyzes the factual data statutes regulations and laws to determine the proper method of maximizing the benefits. 3. Manage and coordinate the processing of Veterans Affairs education benefits by verifying enrollment reviews student account charges and fees along with managing documents submitted by students. 4. Maintain knowledge of state and federal regulations and its impact on VA education benefits. 5. Process certification/verification requests across all veteran-related bills with enrollment type and amount charges for certification for the VA and assist students with questions related to state and federal education benefits. 6. Maintain correspondence with military-affiliated students to provide them with the latest news on benefits processes and procedures. Ensure that data and documents are submitted to the Texas Veterans Commission every semester. 7. Plan outreach activities for Veterans (workshops stole ceremony and community presentations) 8. Ensure all records remain safe and confidential and that the privacy of the VA student is protected. 9. Coordinates VA education benefits with campus offices to ensure all requests are processed in a manner prescribed by the VA school policy. 10. Ensure VA students are aware of their responsibility to the school and address inquiries about payment and benefit issues. 11. Supervise full-time/part-time staff 12. Serve as the VA School Certifying official 13.
