Overview
As an Associate Merchant you will partner with a Merchant in all aspects of developing a customer-focused product assortment to deliver on financial goals. As a category driver you will manage the product assortment from design concept through customer-facing readiness utilizing our merchandising tool system. Communication skills are essential as the Associate Merchant shares the assortment with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of product status and key initiatives. Youll also drive the business through in-season management assessment and reaction to current trends.
Responsibilities
- Supports/Partners with Merchant in development of merchandise framework as well as editing and adopting the line to meet strategic business needs.
- Creates and maintains seasonal assortments ensuring product information accuracy. Shares with cross functional partners and communicates changes throughout he merchandising process.
- Partners with Merchandise Planning on development of strategies that support business objectives. Ranks product and assigns quantities in collaboration with Merchandise Planning.
- Establishes retail pricing and mark-up targets to meet financial goals. Ensures price-value relationship is in line with customer expectations.
- Contributes to seasonal hindsights interprets results and synthesizes learnings into actionable business strategies.
- Assists in pulling weekly sales results and preparing for business reviews with management and cross functional teams. Contributes to identifying and communicating what is working and what is not.
- Partners with Visual and Creative Merchandising teams to ensure proper presentation and space allocation of product to drive financial results.
- Regularly conducts competitive analysis to build awareness of the competitive landscape and shares relevant recommendations.
- Collects and interprets customer feedback from frequent J. Jill store visits communication with field team and analysis of online reviews. Shares insights with product partners and aligns team on necessary next steps.
- Uses brand filter in all decision making.

- Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
- Exceptional communication skills (written and oral)
- Ability to facilitate group discussion for maximum idea generation and problem solving.
- Proficient in Excel including ability to build and manipulate pivot tables write formulas create charts/graphs etc.
- Understanding of retail math
- Demonstrates a strong sense of fashion with an understanding of current and upcoming trends relevant to the customer
Education & Experience:
- Bachelors Degree
- 3 years of related experience
- Retail merchandising or apparel Retail experience or internship experience for college
