Job Summary

Traditional Games Specialist

Salary Grade(s): 8/9 ($27.51 DOE)

PURPOSE

The Traditional Games Specialist plans develops and implements cultural and physical education and supports groups for tribal citizens and their families to meet identified program goals and objectives. Incumbent is responsible for practice planning and providing in-school demonstrations and instruction for K-12 classrooms. Incumbent will support and coordinate related events recruitment fundraisers and team volunteerism. Incumbent provides referrals to other resources as appropriate.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responsible for developing implementing and maintaining a system supporting education wellness and support for Tribal citizens and athletes
Plan develop and implement education wellness and support groups
Design and deliver community outreach methods which support education and prevention activities to support wellness of tribal citizens
Provide support to families through coaching and mentoring youth
Provide cultural competency training for non-native partners and service providers
Work with Tlingit & Haida departments to provide a one-stop-shop approach to services
Maintain confidential records compile statistical information and meet all reporting requirements
Ability to work flexible hours for after school activities
Distribute receive and review registrations for completeness
Other duties as assigned

NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Ability to collaborate coordinate and advocate for youth adults and families
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent time management and meet deadlines
Ability to develop and present clear lesson plans
Knowledge of community needs problems and resources
Sensitivity to diverse cultures
Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships
Protect and maintain client and athlete confidentiality
Ability to implement and facilitate group activities
Understanding of Tlingit Haida and Tsimshian cultures

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education experience skills)

Associate degree in education or related field
Two (2) years related experience
Must be 21 years of age with a Valid Drivers License

Substitution for Degree:

High School Diploma
Four (4) years experience proving direct client services
Experience facilitating group activities

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (education experience skills)

Bachelors Degree in education or related field

UNUSUAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR RESTRICTIONS

Work may require routine walking standing bending carrying of heavy items running and vigorous exercise. Travel on small aircraft or ferry may be required.
