Job Summary

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will analyze malfunctions and repair rebuild and maintain power equipment such as cranes power shovels scrapers paving machines motor graders trench-digging machines conveyors bulldozers dredges pumps compressors and pneumatic tools.

Operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects dismantles and reassembles equipment using hoists and hand tools examines parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges replaces defective engines and subassemblies such as transmission and test overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency.

Identifies part requirements for repair of equipment. Welds broken parts and structural members and may direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment and may repair adjust and maintain mining machinery such as stripping and loading shovels drilling and cutting machines and continuous mining machines.

Monitors work of less experienced mechanics; provides technical assistance in diagnosing problems beyond the capacity of assigned personnel; and maintain a safe work record. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Maintain a safe work record
  • A good working knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance programs policies nomenclature work methods manuals or other established guidelines
  • An understanding of the needs of the organization serviced
  • Must be able to climb in and out of military vehicles and related equipment
  • Must be able to work in cramped areas for at least two continuous hours
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions to include intense heat heavy wind blowing sand heavy rain and snow and sleet
  • Employees shall utilize all proper lifting procedures and practices associated with all lifting and material handling tasks that are assigned and associated with this job description
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds unassisted
  • Must be able to team lift up to 50 pounds in a two-person carry
  • Must be free of medical restriction/limitations that prevent the wearing and utilization of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment and background checks related to the position

Basic Qualifications (Required Education Experience Skills and Certifications)

  • Must have a minimum of 3 years relevant experience
  • Analytical ability to define or recognize the dimension of the problems involved to collect the necessary data to establish the facts and take or recommend action based upon application or interpretation of established guidelines
  • Must possess a valid State Real ID
  • Must be able to speak read and write English fluently
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Must possess a valid state drivers license and be able to obtain a military operators permit for each type of vehicle or equipment required to operate

    Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40

    Basic Compensation: $41.94 per hour
