Summary



TheKing County Medical Examiners Officeis looking for the Lead Forensic Autopsy Technician. Technicians work alongside Forensic Pathologists to help them determine cause and manner of death. They conduct evisceration take photographs and x-rays collect samples for toxicology and histology and a range of other addition to performing the day-to-day activities of a Technician the Lead coordinates the work of 6 other technicians.

Perform all duties of Forensic Autopsy Technicians:

Experience Qualifications Knowledge Skills

Required:

  • Experience working as a forensic autopsy technician
  • Leadership skills in a fast-paced environment
  • High-level of knowledge of autopsy procedures
  • Knowledge of medical terminology anatomy physiology and skeletal anatomy
  • Knowledge of trace evidence and chain of custody
  • Knowledge of basic firearm safety
  • Skill in time management organization and attention to detail
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Skill in creating written directions and protocols
  • Skill in dealing with death and with human remains in various stages of decomposition disease and trauma
  • Skill in maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of information
  • Ability to take direction and work independently with a high degree of responsibility
  • Skill in oral and written communications
  • Ability to effectively engage in and sustain relationships with people from diverse cultures and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member and coordinator meeting deadlines
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business applications such as Microsoft Office suite
  • Washington State Drivers License OR ability to obtain upon hire
  • Ability to safely maneuver to chest height bodies weighing an average of 175 pounds unassisted (pre-employment test for this requirement)

Work Schedule:
Technicians work 5 days per week (8 hours per day) 6am to 2:30pm or 5:30am to 2pm. Technician work takes place 6 days per week (Sunday through Friday). Working Sundays is shared among all technicians and schedules are rotated monthly to accommodate this. Each Technician works approximately of the Sundays in a year.
This position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime.

Work Location

The position is located at the Medical Examiners Office 908 Jefferson St. Seattle WA 98104.

All work takes place on site at the Medical Examiners Office (no telework).

Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
