Job Description
THE POSITION
Are you an experienced law professional interested in starting a new chapter in your career The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) has two exciting part-time opportunities as an Assistant Counsel 3 in the Law Bureau. This position gives you the opportunity to utilize your extensive job knowledge to advise Commissioners and their assistants bureau directors and other Commission employees on various legal procedural ethical and policy matters. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a part-time PUC Assistant Counsel you will be responsible for representing the Commission in difficult and complex cases before state and federal appellate courts before federal agencies (primarily the FCC and FERC) before the Independent Regulatory Review Commission (IRRC) and PA Office of Open Records (OOR). This position prepares memoranda reports legal opinions draft orders and proposed regulations for Commissioners the Chief Counsel client bureaus other agencies and the general public. The well-qualified candidate will have three years of progressively responsible professional legal experience with some experience in highly responsible and complex professional legal work which provided exposure to governmental regulatory law (regarding public utilities) or administrative addition you must possess at least three years of demonstrated experience in proceedings before Pennsylvania or federal agencies and/or possess at least three years of demonstrated experience in proceedings before Pennsylvania or federal courts.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Permanent Part-time employment 37.50 hours in a 75-hour biweekly pay period.
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday - Friday with a 60-minute lunch.
- Telework:Part-time work from home (telework) may be a potential feature of this position. The successful candidate is required to report to the headquarters worksite daily unless the employee meets eligibility requirements and telework has been approved. Management may discontinue any telework arrangement at any time for any order to telework you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg Pennsylvania.
- To be eligible to participate in telework the employees alternate (telework) worksite must meet the following requirements:
- Within a reasonable travel distance of Harrisburg; and
- Within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

- To be eligible to participate in telework the employees alternate (telework) worksite must meet the following requirements:

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Three years of progressively responsible professional legal experience with some experience in highly responsible and complex professional legal work which provided exposure to governmental regulatory law (regarding public utilities)/administrative law and graduation from an approved school of law; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
- This position requires possession of a certificate of admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania; or eligibility for such certification.
Additional Requirement:
