Overview:
The Domestic Abuse Response Team (DART) Program is a law enforcement-based crisis response team which pairs a trained domestic violence advocate with police officers. DART teams to respond to domestic violence incidents provide immediate crisis intervention and follow-up services to victims of domestic violence and their families. DART advocate to be assigned at one of the following Los Angeles Police Department Valley Bureau divisions: Foothill Mission North Hollywood Van Nuys and West Valley.
Duties and Responsibilities (other duties as assigned)
DART advocates will be co-located at one of the above LAPD divisions to provide the following activities:
1) Crisis Intervention to provide immediate culturally appropriate crisis intervention safety planning and needs assessments to domestic violence victims including the provision of emotional support explanation of victim rights available resources and corresponding materials.
2) Provide assistance in obtaining Protective Orders.
3) Shelter Placement when necessary transporting victims to a safe location with the assistance of LAPD.
4) Participate in the provision of roll call community and staff training
5) Receive training
6) Complete accurate documentation data entry and progress reports.
Qualifications:
A minimum of 6-month experience working with domestic violence victims or enrollment in an undergraduate program in behavioral science or criminal justice field. Bicultural/Bilingual Spanish Speaking is required. If the selected candidate is not already certified the candidate will need to complete the 40-hour Domestic Abuse Counselor Certification as defined in California Penal 1037.1 provided upon employment.
Work Hours: Days and hours may vary. Weekdays and weekends ranging between 3pm 12am.
Knowledge Specialized Skills and Abilities:
Candidates must possess the ability knowledge and skill to provide risk assessment and the management of multi-disciplinary team relationships. Capacity to remain calm focused and responsive in crisis situations. Effective interpersonal skills clear professional boundaries and the ability to work in partnership with the Los Angeles Police Department. Criminal Background Clearance California Drivers License Automobile and Automobile Insurance will be required.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
Work is performed in an office setting with a low-to-moderate noise level; employee will need to utilize their personal vehicle for travel to and from meetings outside the office; employee must regularly communicate by telephone written communications and in-person with staff families served partners funders and other professionals; occasionally lift carry and position objects weighing up to 20 pounds. Pay Benefits & Work Schedule
This position is employed through The University Corporation (TUC).
The anticipated hiring range: $25.00 - $27.00 per hour
