Job Description

THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE OFFERED A SALARY OF $434.98 PER DIEM

THIS POSITION IS ONLY OPEN TO CANDIDATES WHO ARE PERMANENT (NOT PROVISIONAL) IN THE CIVIL SERVICE TITLE OF PLUMBER.

The Administration for Childrens Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice ACS oversees detention placement and programs for youth in the community.

The Division of Administration provides a wide range of support services throughout ACS to ensure all Divisions receive adequate and efficient support services to carry out their respective missions. The Division of Administration (Admin) employs approximately 463 public employees. Admin manages a Personnel Services (PS) Budget of approximately $29M and an Other Than Personnel Services (OTPS) Budget (OTPS) of $140M. It provides services including building maintenance real estate design construction management facilities and custodial services occupational safety and health operational support security transportation and print production.

Detention Construction and Building Operation oversee the day-to-day administrative and operational responsibilities of the Facilities and Skilled Trades Team at each site as well as contracted construction project management and city agency (DDC DCAS etc.) support. Detention Construction and Building Operation also is responsible for overseeing the successful comprehensive and timely execution of several construction projects and routine maintenance with varying levels of complexity resources and oversight at the state and local levels.

Detention Construction and Building handle all detention related facility matters including but not limited to construction design maintenance repairs etc. and ensuring the space meets programmatic needs; partner with the Department of Design and Construction to ensure new projects are completed within applicable deadlines and within fiscal parameters. They ensure the routine repair and maintenance of ACS secure detention facilities as well as the design and development of construction projects.

This includes the monitoring of skilled tradespeople and/or contractors architects engineers and all individuals who provide design services ensuring safety measures and regulations are followed and work is done completely and as expeditiously as possible. They Engage in critical analysis of current and pending projects and daily work plans keeping the team on track and on task at every level; Create and maintain impeccable records and reports as required.

What are were looking for:

The New York City Administration for Childrens Services (ACS) is currently seeking to fill the position of licensed Plumber. In this role a Plumber will be under the guidance of the of the Office of Detention Construction & Building Operations. In addition to being under the supervision of the Office of Detention Construction & Building Operations the Plumber is to install alteration maintenance and repair of piping of gas potable water plumbing and drainage systems. As a license Plumber one will make applications obtaining permits and approvals. The Plumber will also determine and requisite job materials while work is in progress.

Key responsibilities:

- Maintain install and repair piping for water storm waste soil and vent systems by checking plans specifications work orders and program objectives in order to provide safe and efficient plumbing systems.
- Maintain chronological log of work performed and materials and equipment used/ forwarded by entering subject time and disposition in order to record information for future reference.
- Set up and install plumbing fixtures by checking for faulty parts fittings. Testing safety devices in order to insure safe operation of gas and water drainage systems.
- Works from designs/ lay outs by following instructions/ interpreting schematics in order to complete assignments efficiently/ in accordance with specifications/ program needs.
- Make routine repairs to building plumbing systems by removing replacing and patching washers faucets and valves in order to insure proper operation of all plumbing in all facilities
- Ensure compliance with local state and federal plumbing codes and regulations
- Provide estimates for plumbing work and order necessary materials and supplies.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed including details of repairs and installations
- Respond to plumbing emergencies and provide timely effective solutions. Stay up to date with the latest plumbing techniques tools and technologies.

Qualifications :

(1) Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a plumber acquired within the last ten years; or
(2) Not less than three years of full-time satisfactory experience described in 1 above plus sufficient full-time experience as a plumbers helper or apprentice or training of a relevant nature acquired in an approved trade school technical school or vocational high school to make up the equivalent of five years of acceptable plumber experience.
The apprenticeship must be recognized by the New York State Department of Labor the U.S. Department of Labor or any apprenticeship council which is recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor. The schooling must be approved by a states Department of Education or comparable agency. Each year of helper or apprentice experience or approved schooling is equivalent to six months of satisfactory plumber experience up to a maximum of two years of satisfactory experience.
Driver License Requirement: You must possess a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York at the time of appointment. If you have moving violations license suspension or an accident record you may be disqualified. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
