Job Description

Location: St. Joseph Catholic School Erie Michigan
Reports To: Principal
Employment Type: Full-Time (10-month contract)

Position Summary:
St. Joseph Catholic School a faith-centered Catholic school serving students from Preschool through 8th
grade is seeking a qualified and enthusiastic 5th/6th Grade Teacher to foster academic growth and
spiritual development. The ideal candidate is a certified educator who brings strong classroom
management skills interdisciplinary teaching ability and a dedication to Catholic education.
This position may involve teaching combined grade-level classes or departmental instruction (e.g.
English Language Arts Social Studies Math or Science) depending on school structure.
Responsibilities:

Faith and Mission Integration
Model Catholic values and incorporate faith-based principles into daily teaching and classroom
culture.
Collaborate with the pastor staff and families to support the schools Catholic identity.
Plan and participate in liturgies prayer services retreats and religious events.
Guide students in moral and ethical decision-making rooted in Catholic social teaching.

Academic Instruction
Develop and implement standards-based lesson plans aligned with the Michigan Curriculum
Framework and Diocesan guidelines.
Teach core academic subjects (specific assignments will be based on school needse.g. ELA
and Social Studies or Math and Science).
Integrate 21st-century learning tools and technology into instruction.
Use formative and summative assessments to guide instruction and report progress.

Classroom Leadership
Establish a respectful engaging and safe classroom environment.
Apply consistent classroom management techniques aligned with school expectations.
Promote critical thinking collaboration and problem-solving.

Collaboration and Communication
Work cooperatively with colleagues support staff and administration as part of a faith-filled
school community.
Maintain open and effective communication with parents/guardians.
Participate in parent-teacher conferences professional development staff meetings and school-
wide events.

Qualifications:

Required:
Bachelors degree in education or related field
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with appropriate K8 (preferred not required)
Compliance with Michigan Department of Education and Diocesan requirements
Completion of Protecting Gods Children (Virtus) training
Successful criminal background and fingerprint clearance

Preferred:
Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church
Prior experience teaching upper elementary or middle school students (preferred not required)
Familiarity with Catholic curriculum resources and classroom faith integration
Strong communication organization and classroom management skills.

Work Environment:
Typical school hours are 7:30 AM 3:30 PM; some evenings/weekends for school events or
parent meetings
May include duties such as lunch/recess supervision Mass planning and club/moderator roles
