GENERAL JOB SUMMARY
A Cook is responsible for preparation of properly prepared resident meals that are cooked and apportioned according to authorized menus and physician orders in a timely manner. The Cook will be responsible for assuring that all duties in and around the kitchen including the presentation and delivery of food are consistently attractively and tastefully achieved.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Cook is responsible for a number of duties as listed below. All the following duties are essential unless otherwise noted:
- Prepares or directs the preparation of food items on assigned and scheduled menus.
- Adheres to food production and usage schedules and avoids waste.
- Appropriately and immediately labels and stores food items/leftovers after use. Daily assesses all food items in refrigerators to ensure that outdated items are discarded appropriately.
- Maintains sanitation of equipment and utensils and work storage and serving areas by cleaning immediately after use.
- Prepares or directs preparation of special items snacks or meals.
- Prepares or directs preparation of special nourishments or supplements and identifies with the residents name as instructed by the Food Service Supervisor or Dietitian.
- Identifies and corrects safety hazards in the food service areas
- Complies with the established policies practices and standards for food preparation.
- Logs and records temperatures of food freezers refrigerators and dishwashers as assigned.
- Helps set up tables for meal service.
- Assist with tray service to residents in the dining area and pick up dishes after meal is served.
- Assists with the assembly of washing of and/or stacking of dishes and storage of clean dishes in the proper place.
- Assists with general cleaning and as needed.
- Maintains daily care of dishwasher and dishwashing area lavatory and sink salad worktable dish storage cabinet and food carts.
- Assures that trash cans are cleaned.
- Assists with care of floors in kitchen by sweeping and/or mopping at a time when food is not being prepared or served.
- Assists in maintaining dry storage areas handling unpacking dating and rotating of food and non-food supplies and notifies the Food Service Supervisor of shortages or discrepancies.
- Assures that soiled linens are delivered to laundry.
- Advises Food Service Supervisor of any needed changes to the diet cards in a timely manner.
- Has ability to reasonably conform to all rules and policies of the facility.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
High school education or GED is preferred but not required. Must be at least 16 years old.
