Position Summary
The Online Therapeutic Horticulture Program Assistant will assist in the delivery and administration of the Online Certificate in Therapeutic Horticulture offered through the North Carolina Botanical Garden in partnership with NC State Extension. This remote part-time temporary position (up to 15 hours per week for 8 months) involves supporting course instructors with online class management student communication technical support and grading. This position will help foster a welcoming inclusive learning environment and assist with virtual class sessions using tools like Moodle and Zoom. Duties include moderating discussions organizing virtual meetings and tracking student participation. This position will work closely with faculty and program staff to support adult learners from a variety of professional and personal backgrounds in their engagement with therapeutic horticulture. Other than weekly team meetings during regular office hours work related to this position can be completed during evening or weekend hours. This position is primarily remote and does not require physical labor.
Required Qualifications Competencies And Experience
Experience with (or interest in) therapeutic horticulture or horticultural therapy. Comfort with using and supporting others in digital learning platforms (e.g. Moodle Padlet Canvas Zoom Google Drive). Strong communication time management and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and meet deadlines. Experience contributing to a diverse and inclusive environment that is trauma-informed and provides a respectful learning environment. Reliable access to personal computer and internet connection suitable for remote work (laptop will not be provided). Strong focus attention to detail and the capacity to manage multiple small tasks efficiently. Emotional maturity and sensitivity to support learners from diverse backgrounds from around the world some of whom may be navigating topics related to mental health trauma or disability. Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and respectful communication in all interactions.
Preferred Qualifications Competencies And Experience
Completion of (or current enrollment in) the Certificate in Therapeutic Horticulture program. Direct practice experience volunteering or working in therapeutic horticulture or horticultural therapy settings. Experience with online learning environments either as a student or instructor. Background in adult education or group facilitation.
Work Schedule
Monday Friday 3 hours each day (flexibility based on applicant preference)
