Job Duties

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) is seeking a visionary and compassionate leader to serve as Assistant Commissioner of Developmental Services. This position plays a pivotal role in shaping and overseeing programs that support individuals with developmental disabilities across Virginia. As a key member of the Community Services leadership team this position drives strategic initiatives ensures regulatory compliance and champions person-centered care across all community-based services. This position is required to be in Central Office four days per week and requires statewide travel.

Key Responsibilities include:
Leading and managing statewide developmental services programs and initiatives.
Supervising directors and program managers across multiple facilities.
Developing and implementing policies that promote equity inclusion and quality of care.
Collaborating with stakeholders advocacy groups and government agencies.
Overseeing budgets contracts and performance metrics.
Ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

Developmental Disabilities knowledge and experience including management experience across the continuum of care including facility and community services.
Working knowledge of public and private developmental disabilities service delivery systems.
Ability to communicate succinctly and effectively.
Ability to follow through successfully on projects and assignments independently and as a team member.
Ability to create and sustain effective relationships and liaison with facility staff central office departments CSB and other stakeholders and constituents as required.
Flexibility and ability to manage multiple competing priorities effectively.
