ISS Paraprofessional - Adams Middle School
ISS para is responsible for coordinating student receipt and completion/progress of classroom assignments and activities. This person is also responsible for ensuring that students who are placed in the In-School Suspension Program work on study habits classroom behavior skills and a positive self-image.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate assignments and activities with classroom teachers of referred students; provide tutorial assistance as needed and monitor students classwork while in ISS.
- Assist students in examining misbehavior and developing strategies to prevent recurrences.
- Work with other school personnel to assist students in the development of techniques to control and express anger constructively encourage positive student behavior and promote safety in the school.
- Assign and oversee additional assignments related to student infractions.
- Communicate proactively with teachers to inform them of student issues.
- Respond to emails and phone calls from school leaders and teachers in a timely manner.
- Assist during standardized testing to support state and local testing processes and policies.
- Assist with distribution of food supplies materials and equipment including technology.
- Monitor students movement throughout the building to other classrooms learning areas and cafeteria.
- Assist administrators and other staff members in the orderly expedient and safe transition of students from one location to another.
- Engage in professional learning opportunities in person.
- Maintain prompt regular attendance in person and be available to work on-site in-person during regular business hours.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities deemed appropriate or acceptable by the principal or designee.
- Ability to effectively work in an environment with a usual noise level or low to moderate and an occasional noise level of high depending upon student population and activities.
- Professionally represent the school and the district in interactions with parents community staff and students.
- Comply with applicable district state local and federal laws rules and regulations.

- The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met:
- Regularly required to talk or listen;
- Frequently required to walk sit bend stand use hands for fine manipulations handle or feel and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and video display terminal.
- Occasionally required to stoop kneel or crouch.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
- Required by this job to have specific vision abilities which include close vision distance vision small print ability to adjust focus on peripheral vision.
- Like all school employees accept some level of responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
- Paraprofessional certification preferred
- General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use standard school software internet software email and word processing software
- Ability to be flexible and de-escalate potentially controversial situations
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to communicate fluently both verbally and in writing; ability to read and interpret documents; ability to prepare general correspondence
- Ability to work well with students staff and parents in a professional manner
- Ability to work effectively and adapt in a learning environment
- Basic knowledge of childhood growth and development
- Effective communication skills including but not limited to: oral written and interpersonal
