Position Description


Job Title: Kindergarten Classroom Aide

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Job Status: Part- Time (29 hours/week); school year only

Reporting Functions: Reports to Principal


Job Function: Holy Family School provides a safe and nurturing school environment for children from preschool through 8th grade. The primary responsibility of a kindergarten teacher aide is to provide support to both the teacher and students in the classroom. This can include monitoring student behavior assisting with classroom activities and providing individualized attention to students who may be struggling. Additionally the job may entail assisting with lesson planning and curriculum development as well as participating in parent-teacher conferences and school events.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of the Kindergarten Teacher assist students in performing activities/lessons and provide special help to students with specific skills when needed. This includes but is not limited to working with students during academic lessons circle time story time outdoor lessons all special classes bathroom breaks snack lunch arrival and dismissal procedures and disciplinary discussions.

  • Assist the teacher in the preparation of instructional materials supplies copying and decorating of bulletin boards.

  • Must be able to interact with students in physical exercise to help with proper safe and ergonomic techniques.

  • Interact with students in sing-along hand motions dancing stretching and other activities involving bending and reaching.

  • Assist in the supervision of students. This includes during recess lunch dismissal and when the teacher is not in the classroom.

  • Ability to read to a large group of students.

  • Engage in learning and playing activities.

  • Maintain student school personnel and student family confidentiality.

  • Follow all policies set forth by the Diocese of Allentown and Holy Family School.

  • Any other duties as assigned by the Principal or Kindergarten Teacher.

Educational Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma GED or equivalent required

  • Bachelors degree in Education or related field preferred

  • Experience with working in a classroom setting is a plus

Other Requirements:

  • Excellent communication both with students teachers and staff.

  • Patience and understanding especially when working with young children

  • Creative problem-solving in order to develop effective solutions to classroom challenges

  • Organization and time management to effectively prioritize tasks and responsibilities

  • Flexibility and adaptability as each day in the classroom may present new challenges and unexpected situations

  • A love for learning and a passion for helping students succeed

** Must have clear records of Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (PATCH) Pennsylvania Child Abuse History NSOR and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Fingerprint Check as required under Commonwealth of Pennsylvanias Act 153 of 2014 (No less than 1 year old.) As well as attendance at the online Protecting Gods Children class and Mandated Reporter Training.

Physical Demands: The employee is regularly required to stand walk sit and talk or hear; frequent use of equipment including repetitive motions and computer eye fatigue; possible biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop crouch lift and/or move small stacks of textbooks media equipment desks and other classroom equipment; may occasionally climb stairs. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas using the spoken word: hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities.


Working Conditions: Normal classroom setting; working hours are between 7:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. part time 29 hours per week; Monday through Friday. May be required to work outside normal hours to attend school-related events meetings and/or staff development.
