ELEM/ELC 8:15-3 (1.5 Openings)POSITION TITLE: Instructional AssistantREPORTS TO: Principal and/or Director of Special EducationSUMMARY: The Instructional Assistant is responsible for assisting teachers in supporting student growth. The Instructional Assistant provides support for student learning objectives and growth. They will support students during instructional and non-instructional times throughout the school TYPE: Full-timeESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:The essential functions or duties listed below are illustrations of the type of work that is performed and is not an exhaustive list of the duties performed by this position. Other duties may be assigned by the Superintendent and/or the Superintendents out specialized instruction and support to assist the student toward progress on IEP goals and work completion under the direction of the classroom and Special Education teachers in a general education classroom or separate instructional areaAssist the teacher in data collection on student performance including all IEP goal areas work completion and taught skills (grade work samples observation)Establish ongoing communication with the general education and Special Education teachersAssist teachers with instructional activities including re-teaching and remediation as necessaryFollow teacher directions regarding discipline turning in assignments bathroom procedures and other systemsImplement a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) if necessaryMake modifications with teacher direction and/or implement accommodations (assignments projects quizzes tests etc.) Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and their recordsAssists with the personal needs of studentsSupervises students during play periods recess periods lunch periods and in and out of classroomsProvides small group instructionAdministers tests to individuals or small groups as neededParticipates in in-service training programs and/or professional development programs as assignedPerforms other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Designated PersonnelReports incidents (e.g. fights suspected child abuse suspected substance abuse etc.) for the purpose of maintaining the personal safety of students providing a positive learning environment and adhering to state and federal laws and district policiesFollows all standards and indicators to the best of his or her ability as described in the Sutton Public SchoolsAdheres to the voted upon collective bargaining agreement and any applicable MOUs/MOAs between the Sutton Education Support Association and School CommitteeSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise students as assigned. Regular use of hands for typing handling objects and operating tools is required along with sufficient grip strength for various tasks. The role involves frequent use of a computer and standard office equipment such as a calculator copier and printer. The employee must be able to enter data read from screens and review handwritten or printed materials with or without visual aids. Clear and effective communication with students parents and colleaguesboth in person and over the phoneis essential. Strong visual and auditory awareness is necessary to ensure student safety and provide meaningful ENVIRONMENT:The employee will be working in a normal school environment with an acceptable level of noise. The employee interacts with students parents and other staff members. The employee is directly responsible for the safety well-being and work output of students. While the majority of the work day is spent inside the employee must spend time outdoors for fire drills and/or special activities.
