Position 1: 7am 3:30 pm Saturdays and Sundays

Position 2: 3:30pm 12am Saturdays and Sundays
Note: training during the first 3 months will occur 1-2 days per week Mon Fri between 6am 2:30pm
THE POSITION
Under general supervision and direction from the Senior Park Ranger performs a variety of duties in the areas of law enforcement; facility operation; resource interpretation and environmental management; and assistance with recreational use of District parks trail systems open space and recreation programs. The position has been authorized to be armed. Part-time hours and schedule vary and may average 1-5 days per week. The position will be required to work weekends and on occasion holidays. Position has a one year probationary period.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS AND EQUIPMENT
Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Two years of college in law enforcement or police science desired. Experience working as a peace officer for a law enforcement agency or a minimum of two years experience working as a Park Ranger I for Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District. Any equivalent combination of education and related experience will be considered. Ability to qualify with a hand gun operate a motor vehicle and bicycle and work in the field. Ability to utilize hand cuffs radio other enforcement and maintenance equipment. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and follow oral and written instructions; establish and maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with all those contacted during the course of work.
Licenses / Certifications: Individual must possess: valid California drivers license and demonstrate a good driving record; valid Basic Life Support CPR Certificate; valid standard First Aid Certificate (or higher); Certificate of Completion from a certified California Law Enforcement Academy. Individual must be able to meet the Peace Officer Certification requirements of California Penal Code Section 832 and Government Code Section 1031. Must be able to qualify with a hand gun every three (3) months during the course of employment. Must be capable of being assigned to the Districts Bike Patrol Unit and must be able to pass a Bike operation training course provided by District personnel.
Equipment: The District will furnish necessary vehicles bicycle safety equipment foul weather gear ranger uniform and cleaning services. The employee shall furnish black shoes or boots and a District-approved hand gun.
At time of interview applicant must provide a Motor Vehicle Report (not more than 30 days old) from the Department of Motor Vehicles and evidence of meeting the certification and education requirements.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS
This position will require standing or walking approximately 30% of the time and sitting 70% of the time. It will involve frequent lifting carrying or pushing or pulling loads of up to 20 pounds. Position will involve frequent kneeling bending squatting reaching overhead or stretching and climbing stairs; occasional climbing ladders and crawling. The position requires the ability to patrol on foot from a vehicle or riding a bicycle off trail and in rugged terrain. Operation of a vehicle bicycle radio photo equipment electronic reporting device hand cuffs taser hand-gun and maintenance equipment will be required. The work assignment will require working in inclement weather conditions and performing emergency services and maintenance work on several types of District property.
