Job Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

With collaboration from department leadership establishes modifies coordinates and communicates the assignment scheduling and routing of student transportation operations. Maintains a variety of department records. Performs a wide variety of specialized and analytical duties relatedto the safe and efficient operation of a comprehensive school bus system

so that students can fully access the districts academic and extracurricular program. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

High School Diploma or GED required

Commercial Drivers License (CDL) required

Passenger and School Bus Endorsements required

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office; knowledge of computer applications related to specific job functions; strong writing and communication skills; working knowledge of two-way radios and multi-line telephone systems; must have a pleasing personality and ability to get along with adults; ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of personalities in situations requiring diplomacy friendliness confidentiality poise tact and good judgment; fluent in English and Spanish.

Experience:

One (1) year of experience in related field preferred

Auxiliary Pay Structure: Pay Grade7

Pay Date: Monthly

Hourly Pay Range:

Minimum: $18.70

Midpoint: $22.26

Maximum: $25.82

Note:Starting pay for a new hire in a pay range plan will be determined individually based on each persons job-related experience and salaries paid to peer employees in the same position with similar experience.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Plans schedules and assigns driver personnel for transportation vehicle operations.
  2. Coordinates transportation vehicle routes and stops for student riders.
  3. Develop and maintain a professional partnership with drivers to ensure efficient operations.
  4. Assist in assigning and distributing field trip assignments to all drivers.
  5. Track field trip assignments to ensure timely transportation services are being provided.
  6. Track field trip requests accurately to ensure accurate billing.
  7. Answer incoming routing calls and dispatch to appropriate personnel as needed.
  8. Maintain up-to-date route and logistics information in department systems.
  9. Exercise maximum regard for safety welfare emotional educational and physical needs of students in the design of bus routes.
  10. Assist in the monthly student count for the district.
  11. Maintain a positive and professional attitude when meeting time-sensitive deadlines.
  12. Promote a culture of commitment collaboration and communication amongst employees that increases employee morale and eliminates the escalation of personnel issues.
  13. Maintain professional growth by attending in-services and meetings as requested.
  14. Work an irregular schedule including night and/or weekend duty.
  15. Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards.
  16. Perform other duties assigned by immediate supervisor (primary evaluator).

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands:

Ability to communicate effectively concentrate reason understand verbal instructions compute and maintain emotional control under stress; ability to handle several projects at the same time with frequent interruptions. Ability and availability to work flexible hours (not a fixed schedule) according to department needs.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

District travel; prolonged and irregular hours; repetitive hand motions and sitting; prolonged work outside in extreme cold (below 32 degrees) and extreme heat (above 100 degrees); shouting in order to be heard above the ambient noise level; exposure to oscillating movement of the extremities of the body
