REQUIREMENTS: Must be available to work 11:30am 4:30pm Monday Thursday. Works with youth under age 18 must pass extensive criminal background check. Works in school setting/Not applicable for remote or hybrid. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or accommodation may be required by funder.

Program Summary
Schools Uniting Neighborhoods (SUN) Community Schools are a school-based service delivery model that provides a comprehensive set of services to the school communities we serve. IRCOs SUN Community Schools offer various programs that support the students education and family stability. SUN Extended Day Coordinator works with the SUN Site Manager to facilitate and run programs like after school classes parent workshops school events food security programs food pantries and more. Programs and services are offered both virtually (on computer) and in-person depending on the site and service area of the program.
Position Summary
The SUN Extended Day Coordinator works with the SUN Site Manager to facilitate and support after school classes parent workshops school events hunger relief initiatives and more. Programs and services are offered in-person at schools in Multnomah County.
Essential Functions
- For staff supporting the after-school educational and enrichment programs
- Act as a substitute for the SUN Manager for extended day programming when needed
- Be able to follow all school district and IRCO safety protocols
- Treat youth and fellow staff respectfully while executing classroom management and
- adhering to school and district rules
- Support SUN activity leaders to develop and implement age-appropriate curriculum for
- youth. Examples include art soccer music writing etc.
- Provide culturally responsive communication outreach and engagement with students
- and families
- Communicate effectively with SUN Site Manager and parents about students success
- behavior or challenges.
- Support the on-site distribution of supply kits or resources to students and families as
- needed.
- Support all school family nights special events and student promotional events (i.e.
- graduations).
- Ensure all shared classrooms and spaces are clean and well organized at the end of the
- extended day program.
- Attend all site-specific SUN staff meetings and orientations.
- Support SUN Manager with registration paperwork and program implementation.
- Support SUN Manager with data collection and data entry into any required database(s).
- Effectively and respectfully work with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
Secondary Functions
- Ability to develop culturally responsive and respectful relationships with students their
- families and all community members we serve
- Ability to use good judgment when working with youth in a school setting
- Experience working in or delivering social or youth services in a school setting
- Actively work to disrupt racism and systematic oppression through inclusive program
- practice and implementation
- Utilize bilingual skills to support culturally specific communication to students families and
- clients in their preferred language when possible
- Support SUN Manager with behavior and classroom management for classes during
- extended day programming.
- Support SUN Manager with minor medical needs of students participating in the activities.
- Support program partners SUN hourly staff volunteers and program vendors with onsite
- orientation
- Support hunger relief efforts for the SUN site as needed.
Education & Experience
- A High School degree or equivalent is preferred. Experience in the field may be considered as equivalent
- Bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply
- Experience working directly with young people in groups of 15 or more is preferred
- Experience planning and implementing lesson plans for school-aged young people is preferred.
- Experience with classroom management and behavior management is preferred.
- Willingness to complete training on child abuse reporting and classroom management skills
Physical Mental & Environmental Requirements
- Requires little physical effort such as lifting carrying or constant movement but does allow for movement needed to complete work tasks.
- There is a regular variation in tasks and the job holder must decide which tasks to complete as well as the order in which tasks are completed.
- The work environment is well protected with virtually no hazards or obstacles. There is very little element of personal risk or hazard. Job conditions are stable usually well managed and very comfortable.
- The schedule is stable and does not fluctuate.
