Senior Payroll Officer

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Senior payroll professional to join our Finance team of six. This role is responsible for leading the end to end payroll process ensuring compliance with relevant legislation agreement and awards maintaining accurate records and providing a high level of service to staff across the School. You will also contribute to continuous improvement projects and support key reporting compliance and audit functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and reconcile monthly and fortnightly payroll superannuation and ad-hoc pay runs.
- Maintain accurate payroll records in Synergetic and ensure all employee data is current.
- Interpret and apply industrial instruments including Awards and Agreements.
- Manage leave processing and forecasting and support timesheet approvals.
- Prepare and submit statutory reporting including ATO Superannuation WGEA DET ABS and WorkCover.
- Support internal and external audits and payroll-related reconciliations.
- Provide timely and accurate payroll advice to staff and leaders.
- Lead or support payroll related system improvements and documentation updates.
- Ensure payroll practices align with legislative obligations and School policies.
About You
- Extensive experience in end-to-end payroll processing with award interpretation ideally in a school or education setting.
- Advanced understanding of payroll compliance including NES Agreement and Award taxation superannuation and leave entitlements.
- Experience using Synergetic Payroll or similar systems is highly desirable.
- Exceptional attention to detail problem solving and analytical skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to high-quality customer service.
- Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.
- Resilience flexibility and the ability to manage changing priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to lead process improvements and support system upgrades.
