You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe QA Technician position exists to perform and document quality assurance efforts by Northern Metal Fab that meet all internal and external customer quality requirements.
Duties and responsibilities
Assist in establishing administering reviewing and auditing quality assurance protocols that ensure customer specifications are met (ITPs inspection forms punch lists highlighted drawings paint inspection records etc.)
Monitor work out on the floor by using the traveler and drawings to ensure that the work is occurring per specification and assist production personnel in the interpretation
Write up non-conformances; notify production tag and segregate material
Assist others in writing up non-conformances
Perform non-destructive tests on products in production
Assist in tracking routing and archiving inspection documentation
Communicate and follow-up on non-conformance issues to ensure appropriate resolution
Coach production personnel in quality assurance methods and procedures
Assist in advancing QA information systems development and implementation
Know the production status of all jobs out on the floor
Stay late or return as necessary to finish up inspections as required
Follow existing standards and propose standards as necessary to correct recurring problems
Maintain the necessary inspection and testing instrumentation to perform inspections and notify the Quality Assurance Manager or the President if new instrumentation is required to satisfactorily test and inspect parts
Participates in customer specification reviews and pre-production meetings
Ensures all quality reports are completed and filed correctly
Coordinates with quality during root cause analysis for corrective actions
Work with outside inspectors and customers
Works safely following all procedures and utilizes proper safety equipment
Minimum - Use measuring devices such as tapes gauges rules etc. with accuracy
To advance - Learn to use all NDE equipment for MT UT and PT testing and study for CWI
Performance Standards
Ensures internal and customer provided product quality specifications are met
For specific customers ensures that NMF develops quality protocols that meet and/or exceed customer expectations
Qualifications
Formal education or training in quality assurance product engineering and production methods are also a plus
Strong organization and communications skills are required to effectively communicate with customers and fellow employees
Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals are required to work with fabrication drawings and flat taping
The ability to read and interpret prints bills of material and production routings is crucial in order to conduct a proper inspection
An ability to pay close attention to detail is important to pick up on items that others may have missed
Ability to complete work within tight time constraints and prioritize multiple projects and problems
Ability to use tape measures calipers dial indicators weld fillet gauges plumb lines levels for 2 holing flanges and any items listed on training program
Strong computer skills
Experience in a metal fabrication production facility as an inspector or in an equivalent capacity as a lead man and welder to qualify by AWS standards to take the CWI test
Computer literacy to master the computer tasks required as listed in the training program
Previous training in NDT and CWI a plus training opportunities provided
Working conditions
While performing the duties of this position the employee can expect to spend most of their time indoors in moderate temperatures. If the employee will be working on the shop floor they will be required to wear steel toed shoes safety glasses and hearing protection. On the shop floor they may be exposed to weld smoke paint fumes and occasional moderate to high levels of noise. This position generally works first shift 5am to 3:30pm or second shift 3:30pm to 2:30am with occasional overtime as needed. Schedules may be temporarily altered based on projects and business needs.

1 Pair of Steel Toed Safety Shoes (Must be worn on shop floor)
1 Pair of Safety Glasses with side shields (Northern can provide non-prescription safety glasses)
1 Weld Fillet Gauges 1 Flashlight
Physical requirements
The physical demands represent those to be met in a manufacturing environment. In an 8-hour shift an employee can expect to be stationary approximately 6-7 hours and moving around approximately 1-2 hours. The employee needs to be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds 1-20 pounds constantly 21-50 pounds frequently and 50-100 pounds occasionally. Additionally the employee may occasionally have to climb balance kneel crouch or crawl frequently need to stoop push or pull and constantly reach for and handle a variety of items.
