You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe Department of Public Safety is seeking an experienced Red Hat Systems Administrator to maintain and support multiple servers and applications used at DPS. This recruitment will be used to establish an 18-month eligibility list for current and future vacancies.
The Red Hat Administrator will be required to monitor and manage multiple virtual Red Hat servers running in a VMware environment; manage and monitor SAN technologies for external storage capacity; develop & maintain documentation reflecting the current operational environment;integrate system monitoring using multiple products; plan and implement firmware/management releases and security updates; ensure redundancy isfunctional for all critical components; confirm adequate file backup for all recovery scenarios; review system logs for errors or potential problems; monitor and review system alerts for software and hardware errors and take corrective action; interpret firewall logs for port and network flow communication.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to work on individual as well as team-oriented tasks; prioritize competing priorities be on-call and respond in a timely manner; be a quick learner; be able to adapt to quickly evolving technology and priority changes; and have a desire to work closely with other members of the IT team. The candidate must be able to work in a cross-matrix management organization.
Under general direction is responsible for work of considerable difficulty in the design installation modification and/or maintenance of computer system software; and participates in the programming and testing of data processing communications systems. Performs related duties as assigned.
Requires a Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in computer information systems or related field and four (4) years of computer systems programming experience for a large (1000 employee) organization; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Progression to the next pay level/step requires an overall performance rating of at least Standard in the last 12 months.
