Job Description

The Graduate School of Social Work (GSSW) is a vibrant community of scholars and teachers committed to having a diverse faculty and student body. Position Summary

GSSW is currently hiring two full time Assistant Professor of the Practice positions for the Department of Field Education. These positions will have an 11-month term of 8/1/2025 6/30/2026 and preference will be given to Denver-based candidates with experience on our field education team.

Essential Functions

Field Administration (75%): These positions will be an integral part of the administration of the field education program and must work effectively and collaboratively as part of a team. Under the direction of the Assistant Dean for Field Education and Community Partnerships in conjunction with supervision from the Associate Director of Field Education these positions will be responsible for contributing to the integration of academic coursework and field placement; program and policy development; quality assurance and program assessment; agency screening development and approval; placement of students into appropriate field sites; the development coordination and delivery of field related events and trainings; and other duties as assigned. These positions will provide training supervision and consultation to field liaisons and off-site supervisors and mediation as needed to facilitate communication and conflict resolution between students and agency field supervisors. These positions will be responsible for completing paperwork and tracking data related to all aspects of field administration. These positions will primarily support the and Denver Campus MSW programs.

Service (10%): Participate as a faculty member in faculty governance GSSW and University service to include meetings committee work special projects and other roles as requested.

Community Engagement (10%): Participate in service to the profession to include involvement in professional organizations and societies and activities that impact the profession of social work. The successful candidates will also provide service and leadership to the broader community to include local state regional national and international settings and activities. Candidates will apply their professional expertise to assist community organizations with the intentionality to be of service. Candidates will seek opportunities to enhance the connection between the University and the community and engage community partners in all facets of GSSW and the University.

Teaching (5%): The successful candidates may teach courses with a lens on integrating academic course work with field practice. Teaching will consist of approximately 1-3 credits per academic year and may include online face to face and hybrid instruction. These positions may also take on lead faculty responsibilities for specific courses including collaboration with course coordinators and updating and modifying online and on campus course material. These positions will advise a designated load of graduate students. Responsibilities include providing professional guidance and acting as a professional mentor.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of social work as a field of practice and an understanding of the role of field education in the curriculum
  • Knowledge of systems of social and human services in order to build community relationships and advise students of fields of practice
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated skills in mediation or conflict resolution
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to comfortably learn and navigate emerging technology including use of database systems to manage and organize field functions
  • Demonstrated autonomy in decision making
  • Strong presentation skills and ability represent the Graduate School of Social Work in communities in a professional manner

Required Qualifications

  • Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from a Council of Social Work Education (CSWE)- accredited institution
  • 5 years of relevant post-MSW practice experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with program management and/or administration
  • 2 years of experience as a field instructor/task supervisor or field liaison for social work interns; additional years of experience in these roles beyond 2 years may count towards fulfilling the required 5 years of relevant post-MSW practice experience.

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.

Work Schedule

While the Universitys administrative offices are open Monday Friday 8:00 am 4:30 pm faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught service commitments and research agendas. The Universitys academic calendars are posted on the registrars website (the law school is on a semester system and has a different academic calendar).

Salary Grade Number

The salary grade for the position is UC.

Salary Rate

The salary rate for this position is $72500.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate departmental budget availability internal salary equity considerations and available market information but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
