Job Duties

Position Overview
The DMV is seeking a skilled Classification and Compensation Consultant to join our Human Resources team. This position plays a critical role in maintaining accurate job classifications and competitive compensation practices throughout the organization. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with Commonwealth policies while providing expert guidance on classification and compensation matters.

Key Responsibilities:

Classification Administration

  • Evaluate positions to ensure proper job classification alignment
  • Partner with managers to develop and revise comprehensive job descriptions
  • Conduct thorough job evaluations including desk audits and position assessments
  • Analyze job content and requirements to determine appropriate classification levels

Compensation Administration

  • Administer the DMV compensation program in accordance with Commonwealth policies and procedures
  • Process and evaluate salary review requests with thorough analysis and recommendations
  • Conduct market data research and analysis to ensure competitive compensation practices
  • Generate detailed compensation reports and analytical summaries

Consultation and Support

  • Serve as primary resource for HR staff and managers on classification and compensation matters
  • Provide expert guidance on job evaluation methodologies and compensation structures
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders across the organization to resolve classification issues
  • Participate in special compensation-related projects and initiatives

Administrative Functions

  • Manage compensation mailbox and maintain tracking systems
  • Ensure accurate documentation and record-keeping for all classification and compensation activities
  • Support data integrity and system maintenance for compensation-related databases

The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) headquartered in Richmond Virginia serves approximately 6.2 million licensed drivers and ID card holders with over 8.4 million registered vehicles. Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and experience interpreting and applying job classification and compensation principles.
  • Knowledge of FLSA regulations and state HR policies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel including formulas and v-lookups.
  • Data entry and management skills in HR systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data analysis and reporting.
  • Effective time management to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills for presenting information clearly to managers and HR staff.

Additional Considerations

  • Comprehensive understanding of state and federal compensation policies and classification standards.
  • Knowledge of salary survey methods and market data analysis.
  • Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables and data visualization.
  • Experience with Cardinal and PageUp for processing and viewing compensation and classification information.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex regulatory guidelines to maintain compliance.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities to identify improvements in compensation processes.
