Idaho Power located in vibrant Boise Idaho is looking for a Lineman (Patrol) - Distribution to join our Customer Operations team. Its an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. What does a Lineman (Patrol) Distribution do for us

They work independently without supervision performing emergency and routine patrols of distribution lines and construction maintenance. Additionally they identify and prioritize maintenance needs and monitor problem areas using reliability programs and outage reports. They maintain thorough and accurate records. They demonstrate commitment to the safety of all Idaho Power employees and our customers. They must be able to perform the essential functions of the position without posing a direct threat of harm to self others or property.

A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

Knowledge of:

  • Lines core processes of new business operations outage response and unplanned maintenance
  • Lines construction methods materials standards and equipment
  • Chemical safety
  • Lines safety programs

Skills in:

  • The use of personal computers using Microsoft products and time entry software
  • The use of digital cameras and software
  • GPS equipment
  • Infrared cameras and phase ranger

Ability to:

  • Work independently and meet deadlines
  • Manage and coordinate multiple projects and schedules
  • Read and understand construction drawings and diagrams feeder maps patrol maps and work order maps
  • Establish positive working relationships with all team members and leadership
  • Maintain neat and legible work documents

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED

Experience:

  • Certificate of completion of an Apprentice Lineman training program that is recognized by the Office of Apprenticeship (OA) including at least 4 years of relevant line work experience

OR

  • 6 years documented experience as a Lineman in distribution and/or transmission (2 of which must be documented at a journey level)

OR

  • Any Idaho Power employee currently or formerly employed as a Journeyman Lineman

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
  • Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card
  • Current DOT FMCSA 49 CFR Part 383 Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) or ability to obtain prior to hire
  • Training and/or certifications to demonstrate the ability to operate a 4-wheeler and conduct aerial patrols
  • Will be required to obtain a drone certification within 6 months of hire


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The Lineman Patrol Distribution position requires frequent lifting up to 75 lbs. pushing up to 150 lbs. pulling up to 50 lbs. frequent reaching to shoulder level/above and frequently using a hotstick (25 lbs. up to 40 feet long at full extension) for up to 30-minute intervals. Emergency lineman rescue certification is required as poles are climbed to perform repairs and installations. Crouching kneeling and crawling is performed with frequent transferring to/from the ground. Bending/stooping and twisting is required as wells as shoveling up to 2 hours at a time. Hiking of up to several miles and fences may need to be climbed/navigated to reach remote poles/lines. To ensure the manufacturers rated capacity of climbing hooks ladders and aerial equipment are not exceeded applicants body weight cannot exceed 300 lbs. Job placement is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment physical evaluation for the Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certificate. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Currently classified as an Idaho Power Journeyman Lineman or previous work experience and training on a line crew with a certification that is recognized by the Bureau of Office of Apprenticeship (OA). Must provide documentation supporting OJT and OA certification with application. Additional safety related training may be required.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Employees will live within the 30-mile drive distance boundaries on the appropriate operations center map with the expectation that under normal driving conditions they will respond to their home operations center in 45 minutes or less if required to stand on call.
