APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:
JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Penn State is searching for a full time Electronics/Network Technician Building Automation - Grade 2 to join the team. Duties include:
- Field layout the utility/fiber optic lan network
- Gather information from site maps utility manhole locations and utility tunnels
- Locate telecommunications trunks in buildings
- Determine route to pull fiber-optic cable and type of equipment needed
- Gather information for completion of as-built documentation
- Install maintain and analyze utility/fiber optic lan network
- Perform all required safety checks
- Install set up and maintain wireless systems directional antennas canopy systems and arrays
- Ensure that best communications over systems network is established
- Direct other trades in removal of trees and or limbs impeding the function of the network
- Direct other trades in proper location to attach mounting equipment
- Trace out and analyze computer automation systems
- Gather field panel information and device location to include lon device locations point database management programs ip addresses and bacnet information to develop modify update or replace a complete working automation system
- Direct and assist contractors and higher and lower grade technicians to modify retro fittings of older automation systems
- Notify system analyst and design teams of changes to database and as-built information
- Set-up calibrate repair and install computer automation systems and sub-systems including digital analog hybrid and fiber optic. Interrogate systems for data connected to computer automation systems
- Send and enter manual commands to computer automation systems to test and analyze system programming
- Install maintain and modify programs and point databases of multiple computer automation systems
- Service and install building automation controls with various types of computer systems and sub-systems consisting of core computers hard drives and memories
- Evaluate building automation control systems; modify or update and replace new systems as required
- Perform the calibration adjustment repair and installation of various types of digital and analog sensors alarm systems and sub-systems such as temperature pressure including vacuum humidity flow ionization position types and all associated wired data transmission sub-systems and components such as encoders multiplexers and wiring
- Install interconnections of sensors and alarm systems and data collection equipment control sub-systems including electric electronic and pneumatic types
- Work with metal and plastic pneumatic tubing as required
- Operate repair and calibrate test equipment and simulators necessary for the maintenance of computer systems peripheral equipment sensors alarms and data collection equipment
- Read and interpret electric electronic and pneumatic schematic and wiring diagrams of computer automation systems related peripheral and test equipment and maintain logs and records of data as necessary
- Monitor building environmental parameters for deviation from predetermined values
- Respond according to established procedures to routine and priority alarms
- Maintain logs of and records related to equipment data and systems
- Use various hand tools and equipment for servicing and construction of needed components such as fiber optic fusion splicer optic time domain reflectrometer and fiber scope
- Interpret network error rate. Keep shop areas in a clean and orderly condition; maintain work area in a clean and safe condition
- Notify supervisor when ordering or restocking supplies
- Work with and advise other employees when needed
- Respond to on-duty and off-duty emergency calls and make repairs as necessary
- Follow up as necessary
- Operate university vehicles as required
Job Requirements: Requires the use of advanced shop mathematics together with the use of complicated drawings specifications charts tables handbook formulas all varieties of adjustable measuring instruments and the use of broad training in a recognized trade or craft. Equivalent to complete accredited indentured apprenticeship or equivalent to high school plus a 2-year technical college education. Over 3 years up to and including 5 years of effective experience.
Work Schedule:7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Days Off:Saturday Sunday

Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid drivers license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
