Job Description

Lead Psychiatrist - Juvenile Justice Mental Health

We are looking for aChild and Adolescent Psychiatristto lead a team of psychiatrists in providing high quality evidence-informed care to incarcerated youth in a statewide system of detention and commitment facilities. The psychiatric care is integrated with the overall behavioral health and medical services and the psychiatrists provide direct care as well as support the medical and behavioral health staff in meeting the mental health needs of the youth.

Job Summary

The lead psychiatrists primary duties will include: (1) providing direct clinical services (remote or in-person); (2) serving as a content expert in up to date psychiatric evaluation and care and psychopharmacology; (3) direct supervision management and oversight of the psychiatry team; (4) contributing as a team member on Medical and Behavioral Health leadership team; and (5) collaborating with and providing consultation to medical and behavioral health staff as well as other parties within the juvenile justice system.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical

  • Psychiatric evaluations consultations and follow-up care both in-person and via telehealth

  • Timely documentation of clinical contact via EHR

  • Clinical consultation to non-psychiatry members of the healthcare teams regarding psychiatric/mental health care

  • Participate in after hours on-call pool

  • Support crisis management of assigned sites

Supervision/Consultation/Training

  • Be readily available for consultation with psychiatry team members regarding both clinical and operational issues

  • Develop and deliver trainings on psychiatric topics to non-psychiatric healthcare staff and other partners

  • Aid in mental health crisis management across the system

Administrative

  • Develop and update protocols policies and procedures that are: culturally responsive standardized processes with operational efficiency

  • Facilitate strong collaborative relationships of the psychiatric services with facility medical and behavioral health care teams and other partners

  • Support the operations of the psychiatry team via problem solving and addressing barriers

  • Ensure psychiatric care is in compliance with community standards of care NCCHC standards and CHP policy and procedures.

  • Assess quality utilization and effectiveness of psychiatric health care services.

What is Required

  • Fellowship training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Board Certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry or Psychiatry

  • Current DEA certification and Professional Liability insurance required

  • Management experience in health care settings

  • Prior juvenile justice and/or child welfare clinical experience

What is Preferred

  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in relevant understanding of psychiatric services in the area of health and psychological assessment clinical diagnosis pharmacology and direct consumer services.

  • Proficiency in working with culturally diverse populations

  • Ability to conduct clinical care in Spanish

  • Experience with the principles and practice of evidence-based medicine

Work Location:

This position is primarily remote but with an expectation for some in-person visits to sites and occasional in-person meetings.

Hours:

Full-time or part-time will be considered.

Compensation:

Competitive compensation commensurate with experience and expertise. Our starting range is between $210 to $225 per hour.
