Job Summary:
The Safety Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the development of implementing and maintaining the safety programs and policies for an electrical contracting company. This role ensures compliance with all federal state and local safety regulations while fostering a culture of safety and risk mitigation. The Safety Director will collaborate with project managers foremen and field staff to minimize workplace hazards and promote employee well-being.
Key Responsibilities
1. Safety Program Development and Implementation
Design and implement comprehensive safety programs tailored to electrical contracting operations.
Develop policies procedures and training programs to meet OSHA NFPA and other applicable safety standards.
Conduct risk assessments and job hazard analyses for ongoing and upcoming projects.
2. Training and Education
Organize and lead safety training for employees including new hire orientations and regular refresher courses.
Educate staff on best practices hazard recognition and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
3. Compliance and Inspections
Ensure compliance with federal state and local safety regulations including OSHA standards.
Conduct regular site inspections to identify hazards and enforce safety protocols.
Maintain all required safety documentation including incident reports and training records.
4. Incident Investigation and Reporting
Investigate workplace accidents and near-misses to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
Prepare and submit incident reports to regulatory agencies as required.
5. Collaboration and Leadership
Partner with project teams to proactively address safety concerns.
Serve as the primary point of contact for all safety-related matters.
Promote a culture of safety through effective communication and leadership.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Bachelors degree in Occupational Health & Safety Construction Management or related field (preferred).
5 years of experience in safety management preferably within the construction or electrical contracting industry.
Certifications
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) or equivalent (preferred).
OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification (required).
Skills and Abilities
In-depth knowledge of OSHA NFPA and other relevant safety standards.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication and leadership abilities.
Proficiency in safety management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Requirements
Ability to work on construction sites including climbing ladders and navigating uneven terrain.
Willingness to travel to job sites as required.
Travel Requirements - Up to 25%
