JOB DESCRIPTION: School Support Specialist
FLSA: Exempt
Reports To: TLC Chief Clinical Officer
Organization Summary: Founded in 1970 by a behavioral health hospital and incorporated as a

lives and communitiesone moment one choice one connection at a time. Headquartered in
Pennsylvania TLC operates across multiple states providing K-12 alternative education
comprehensive mental and behavioral health services coaching counseling and trauma-informed
training. Additionally TLC collaborates with school districts universities hospitals police
departments and nonprofit organizations offering consultation services to secure federal and
state grant funding
Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Chief Clinical Officer and working as a member of
the site/program team develops and implements an effective behavioral intervention and safety plan
for students. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Duties & Responsibilities: School Culture Management
Manages crisis situations and defuses situations using conflict resolution and crisis management
techniques
Works one-on-one with students to affect behavior changes
Reinforces appropriate behaviors and redirects negative behaviors
Provides values clarification including rules expectations and consequences
Implements consequences for inappropriate behavior with proper training
Provides interventions to redirect behavior
Implements behavioral programs designed to make positive and appropriate changes
Assists school staff by participating as a team member in the development and monitoring of
comprehensive behavioral objectives goals and plans
Develops and implements behavioral interventions within a multi-tier system of supports
Communication/Consultation
Works as a team member with teachers and counselors and other appropriate personnel to establish
positive student contacts that develop appropriate and positive behavior modifications enabling
students to succeed
Provides information to parents guardians or other care providers concerning actions of
students
Ensures consistency of behavioral standards by coordinating with appropriate
student contacts
Monitors physical and emotional changes in students and reports to appropriate
personnel
Consults with teachers support staff and administrators to obtain information and advice on
prior behavior problems and provides information as necessary concerning behavioral concerns
Program/Staff Support
Maintains a professional rapport with program/site staff
Monitors student behavior changes assisting with academics as directed by teacher and
supervising various activities during the course of the instructional day to maintain a controlled
and safe environment for students and staff
Attends IEP (Individualized Education Program) and student progress meetings as
requested
Maintains awareness of fire drill and lockdown procedures and emergency contingency plan for the
school site
Implements schools emergency procedures as requested
Attends and provides trainings regarding safety security physical interventions and behavior
management procedures as requested
Oversees recreational activities and other learning opportunities as requested
Attends program/site team meetings and various school events including selected sporting
events
Skills & Knowledge: Leadership and soft skills:
Excellent communication and relationship building skills
Ability to work effectively on a multi-treatment team
Technical skills:
Proficient in subject matter taught
Knowledge and experience with Microsoft programs
Education and Experience: Bachelors degree preferred Masters degree preferred experience in
school
settings preferred

Work Environment: Alternative School setting grades 7-12
Work Hours: This is a full-time 40 hours per week 43-week position
Travel: Travel is occasional such as chaperoning student day trips and home sporting events
