Salary range is $29.33/hour to $74.51/hour with a midpoint of $51.92/hour. New hires typically receive between minimum and midpoint however we may go slightly higher based on experience internal equity and market.

GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Transit Systems Electrician under general direction leads field installation efforts and performs skilled installation maintenance and repair of electrical systems including medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems electrical grounding lighting fire alarm electrical control systems and/or signal processing systems CES devices VMS systems CCTV Fare Collection systems and other equipment. This position is considered technical and is expected to be fully functional in all aspects of design and installation of various systems. In addition to new work installations the electrician provides expertise in the repair and troubleshooting of transit technology equipment installed on Sound Transit properties; responds to and oversees the maintenance of emergency repairs 24/7 as required. The electrician supervises and evaluates contractors performing work on Sound Transit equipment/sites and is responsible for the communication and coordination of work among groups.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following duties are a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional position-specific duties.
- Performs skilled installation maintenance and repair of electrical systems. Services troubleshoots repairs maintains designs and installs CCTV Fare Collection VMS and other systems. Configures computer equipment utilizes standard tools to assist with system problem analysis for repair maintenance and programming of equipment.
- Oversee the work of contractors performing installation work. Ensure standards in connectivity quality and workmanship are met; guides and assists lower level personnel when necessary and/or performs the duties of lower level.
- Develop electrical design of new systems to be implemented in conjunction with consultants and Agency staff as requested. Modify drawings create installation plan and deploy through to acceptance and handover to maintenance team. Provide input on projects requiring integration of one system to another as required during design and construction phases.
- Develop Bill of Material for system deployments and participate in the procurement process as necessary to procure parts for installation.
- Develops standards and processes methods and techniques to deliver successful project results; ensures work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures; ensures compliance with applicable codes regulations government agency and company directives.
- Maintain records concerning installation and maintenance work; prepare reports and briefings on project status progress changes and related items related. Maintains forms associated with tracking the corrective maintenance of electrical devices; creates and updates records of electrical systems performance work accomplished or related information.
- Evaluates the utility and condition of electrical systems and equipment.
- Be flexible with working hours. Job is based during regular business hours but there may be occasions/periods where odd hours including weekends and/or short stints of night shift may be required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:Bachelors Degree in Electronics Electronic Communication Systems or closely related field. Four years of experience performing installation maintenance and repair work of computer systems logic systems analog and digital circuitry or electro-mechanical devices; Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
- Valid drivers license. Position is responsible for transportation of equipment and personnel.
- Possession of a current 01 Journeyman Electrical License or higher.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Methods equipment tools and materials used in the installation maintenance and repair of various industrial electrical equipment and systems.
- Electronic theory and practice cable distribution.
- Digital analog and electro-mechanical equipment.
- CCTV systems.
- Pertinent federal state and local laws codes and regulations.
- Electronic data communications systems and equipment.
- Standard electronic wiring color coding and connection schemes.
- Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
- Building construction principles and practices including familiarity with electrical and IT systems.
- Principles and practices of budget preparation administration and procurement.
- Techniques to work effectively under pressure meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities.
- English usage spelling grammar and punctuation.
- Managing multiple tasks set objectives/goals and re-prioritize as needed.
- Understanding interpreting and applying general and specific administrative and departmental policies and procedures as well as applicable federal state and local policies laws and regulations.
- Preparing clear and concise reports.
- Effectively representing the Agency to outside individuals and agencies to accomplish the goals and objectives of projects. Work cooperatively with other departments Agency officials and outside agencies.
- Responding clearly concisely and appropriately to inquiries from Agency staff on sensitive issues in area of responsibility.
- Utilizing personal computer software programs affecting assigned work and in compiling and preparing spreadsheets and reports.
- Reading and interpreting vendor contract language.
- Coordinating and tracking multiple work orders.
- Assisting in the development and maintenance of project schedules processes checklists timelines and other methods for organizing and coordinating work on a variety of maintenance tasks.
- Analyzing cost and inventory control data.
- Reviewing or checking the work products of others to ensure conformance to standards.
- Working in small cramped areas such as equipment enclosures.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
- Work is performed in a standard hybrid office field warehouse and transit vehicle environments.
- Positions working in field may occasionally be exposed to dangerous machinery extreme weather conditions physical harm hazardous chemicals and/or extreme noise.
- Position includes 24-hour on call program and weekend/night shifts; position is responsible for transportation of equipment and personnel.
- This position is responsible for installing wiring and cabling where using various tools and vehicles are used. May be subject to bending climbing eye/hand coordination grasping hearing kneeling pushing pulling reaching repetitive motion sitting standing talking seeing walking and carrying and lifting up to 50 pounds.
