Job Description

Job Summary

San Jos State University (SJSU) is seeking a committed and compassionate professional to join the Case Management team as a SJSU Cares Case Manager. This position provides holistic non-clinical support to students experiencing personal hardships basic needs insecurity or other barriers affecting their academic success and well-being. Operating within SJSU Cares the Case Manager plays a central role in the universitys students support response network. The incumbent helps students navigate complex life situationssuch as food or housing insecurity financial emergencies and wellness concernsby providing individualized care coordination that fosters long-term resilience and persistence toward graduation. Using a trauma-informed equity-minded and strengths-based approach the Case Manager supports students in identifying goals connecting to resources and cultivating self-advocacy and life skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct individualized assessments and action plans to support students navigating crises or hardship
  • Coordinate timely access to resources (e.g. emergency housing food financial support academic resources)
  • Provide non-clinical case management and well-being coaching to promote student stability and success
  • Collaborate with key campus partners including Financial Aid Housing Counseling Services and Academic Success Centers
  • Maintain timely confidential documentation and assist with data tracking and reports for compliance and program planning
  • Provide consultation and outreach to faculty staff and family members concerned about student welfare
  • Contribute to wellness programming and university-wide efforts promoting student well-being and resource awareness

  • Ability to advise and counsel students faculty and staff individually and in groups on complex student-related matters

  • Ability to carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions
  • Knowledge of crisis counseling and mental health interventions
  • Ability to plan coordinate and initiate critical actions necessary to implement administrative or group decisions and/or recommendations

  • Ability to lead individuals and projects in a team effort to accomplish institutional and divisional goals and objectives
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by a student student organizations faculty or staff and to analyze and define the problem draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action
  • Ability to take calls/referrals as required which may include evenings and weekends
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive communications with campus employees and external agencies
  • Ability to interpret and explain policies to students and employees
  • Ability to analyze and define complex organizational policy or procedural problems
  • Ability to compose and appropriately format correspondence and reports
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from various groups

Required Qualifications

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field plus upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques interviewing and conflict resolution where such are job related
  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience which includes experience in advising students individually and in groups and in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems. A masters degree in Counseling Clinical Psychology Social Work or a jobrelated field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling guidance or a jobrelated field may be substituted for two years of the required professional experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional personal or career counseling

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Student Affairs Higher Ed/College Student Personnel Social Work or related field
  • Two (2) years of professional experience in a University setting and/or case management experience
  • Experience demonstrating excellent communication critical thinking negotiation and conflict management skills
  • Experience working with a large diverse population in an urban setting
  • Experience developing partnerships and collaborating with campus faculty and staff
  • Experience working with community resources to assist populations in need
  • Experience working with diverse student populations
  • Experience with complex case management and community resources
  • Bilingual communicator; Spanish and/or Vietnamese preferred

Compensation

Classification: Student Services Professional IV
Anticipated Hiring Range: $6320/month - $6475/month
CSU Salary Range: $6320/month - $9014/month
