General Description:The purpose of the School Mental Health Provider is to provide identified K-12 students who have mild to moderate mental health needs with quality mental health counseling services. School Mental Health Providers will work with their assigned school buildings to build and support a tiered delivery system for mental and behavioral health which is prevention-focused and emphasizes strengthened tier 1 and II supports. This will be achieved through all of the following.
Essential Functions:
- Comply with all applicable policies procedures rules & regulations
- Maintain necessary licensure
- Follow all legal and ethical standards related to your specific license
- Participate in Behavioral Services Team meetings to identify and determine services for referred students to review data consult about current students and set goals and action plan
- Participate in continuous professional development opportunities to maintain licensure and enhance counseling skills
- Obtain an approved referral and parental consent prior to providing counseling services
- Administer and complete the designated behavioral screen assessment and Plan of Care for students assigned to you
- Make referrals to outside agencies when appropriate
- Collaborate with community providers when relevant to enhance services for students
- Obtain a Release of Information to collaborate with outside agencies and medical professionals to coordinate care when appropriate
- Provide counseling to students individually and groups utilizing evidence-based best practices
- Communicate and collaborate with parents/guardians of assigned students
- Document all encounters with parents staff and students
- Maintain student confidentiality FERPA and HIPPA Laws
- Communicate essential information when necessary to teachers and administrators and participate in meetings for student(s) when invited and/or appropriate
- Work closely with in-district School Mental Health Providers such as school counselors or school success workers
- Prepare for individual student needs and sessions through research professional development consultation and collaboration
- Monitor student progress toward goals and adjust services as needed
- Exit students in an appropriate and timely manner
- Provide evidence-based trainings to school staff
- Support of Behavioral Health Assessment Teams through consultation and professional learning offerings

- Serve as a positive role model for DIISD constituents demonstrating how to be a responsible citizen and productive member of society

- Ability to carry out other associated duties as assigned by administration
- Follow all policies or agreements of the BSC
